  • Had lefty removed yesterday......

The surgery went well. It was removed at 11:00 AM and I was out the door by 2:30. God bless morphine. My urologist said it appears the cancer had not spread, but I don't think we'll know for sure until all the tests are completed. I got a prescription for hydrocodone, but its making me sick. I am going to call him this morning and try to get something else. My mother, who is going through breast cancer treatment, told me percocets (oxycodone) didn't seem to make her as nauseated as hydrocodone. I still don't feel as bad as i thought I would. Hopefully the docs right and it hasn't spread. I hope the pathology report doesn't take too long. I am so sick of waiting. Thanks for all of your support. Being able to communicate with you guys has definitely made this a lot easier for me. God Bless

I'm glad to hear the surgery went well. It good that the margins looked clean but your right you won't really know what has to be done until the test results come back. Just don't forget how beatable this one is.

Dave, I'm glad to hear the surgery went well. Any blood test results yet while you wait for the pathology report?

I'm not sure I had any blood tests yesterday. My initial blood tests (tumor markers) I got last week were normal. I don't remember them taking any blood yesterday.

With your markers normal if the scans come back clean you might just be done. How great would that be?

              davidn,

Great news. You sound just like me. Blood was normal. When they took Lefty, the said it looked contained. It was painful waiting, but a releif when I heard the news. It was pure seminoma and hadn't spread. CT scan and X-ray were negative. I would get these scheduled while you wait.

I'm doing Radiation treatments now. Something you probably should start thinking about.

...if and only if you, too, have pure seminoma.

Good point Scott. Do the do chemo on non seminomas? Do they do both chemo and Radiation if you have both, or just chemo? Or is it just survellence?

                        • Surveillance is an option for stage I disease, confined to the testicle, for either seminoma or non-seminoma, but only when blood markers are normal.
                        • Radiation therapy is used only to treat pure seminoma, stage I and some stage II.
                        • A mix of seminoma and non-seminoma is treated as non-seminoma.
