  • Unexpected testicular ultrasound!!!

Hello everyone. I am new to this website. My husband went to a local emergency room on New Years Eve and was diagnosed with having epiditimytis/urinary tract infection. They did not order blood to be drawn and did not do any type of ultrasound/CT scans. They sent him home on Cipro 500mg BID x 14 days and nothing for pain. Meanwhile, 1 month later his symptoms become even worse. He is unable to urinate, he has extreme pain in his testicles, and he is running a fever. I took him back to the same ER and demanded several tests to be done. They did the tests and found that his white blood count was very high, blood in his urine, and several calcifications found in both testicles. We were quite surprise about the sono. We were just expecting them to tell us he had a urinary tract infection. They sent him home and asked us to come back the next morning to recheck his blood work. That morning he was very drained. We arrived at the ER, they took his blood pressure and the doctor rushed in and said that he needs to be rushed to another hospital because his blood pressure was dangerously low and he was very dehydrated. The ambulance picked him up and took him to another hospital were he was evaluated. They hydrated him, gave him antibiotics and pain medication. After 7 hours of that ER visit, they diagnosed him with severe epidimitis and sent him back home. I was not very happy. I felt that he should have stayed at least overnight. They referred him to a urologist for the calcifications and epiditimitis. I made him an appt. this morning and he will be seen this friday 2/3/06. We are extremelly worried. If anyone has gone through this same thing, please help us! It seems like my husband is cursed! It is one thing after another with him. He is worried that he has testicle cancer. I know it can lead to cancer but what we want to know is what do they do for these calcifications. Is there a way to remove them or does he wait until they turn into tumors? PLEASE HELP!!!! VERY WORRIED!!!!

    Thank you

Most calcifications in the testicles are benign. Calcifications in the breast are sometimes associated with cancer but that not usually the case with the testicles. Calcifications not associated with tumors do not turn into tumors.
Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04. Full open RPLND 10/13/04. All Clear since.

Treated by Dr. Rakowski of Midland Park, NJ. Visited Sloan Kettering for protocol advice. RPLND done at Sloan Kettering.

I would think if they even suspected him to have TC they would have done the I/O or performed a biopsy!!!!! Usually calcium is left unless it is causing other medical problems seeing the chances of it turning into a tumor or TC is slim to none..... Is he having any luck with the meds he is taking now???Epiditimytis is usually treated with 1 or 2 rounds or anti biotics --3 rounds in extreme cases... Good Luck on Friday!!!!!!! DON

Thank you Don! I really appreciate your help. I feel a little better about this. I could not really get any type of answer on the computer. I will make sure that he has every test possible. My husband says he is feeling much better than the past few days. He has been on Doxycycline for about 2 days now. I keep pestering him to drink alot of water!! He is a big soda drinker. I keep telling him to lay off the soda for a while and he should continue to drink more water. Well, thank you so much for your help and concern.

        Thank you
