Hi,
I'll have to take ciprofloxacin too (for 6 weeks).
My first orchitis was in the right one, this time the left one is infected.
I have to mention that I've a spinal cord injury. Therefore the urinary-system works a bit different than before my injury.
But what I understood is that it takes a while to 'recover' from orchitis, anyway. Quit strange that, like you, I don't feel ill. The only complaint I have is the swollen testicle and, sometimes, foul urine.
Best regards!

antibiotics for orchitis
thanks for that response. did you have orchitis twice in the SAME testicel - like me?
i don't seem to have had any other features - no fever, nausea. Only minimal tenderness. Just an ache and swelling.
anyway - the doc today gave me 1 week of ciprofloxacin - antibiotic. I heard that a 6 week course may be necessary in an attempt to kill bacteria deep in the urinary tract - like in the prostate etc.apparently bugs there can rear their heads every now and then causing recueent epididymo-orchitis.
we'll see what the urologist says next week.
thanks

Hi,
I was diagnosed with orchitis for two times.
If that's the case, you need antibiotics, painkillers are not sufficient.
I'll have to take antibiotics for six weeks. And although the inflammation is gone, the swelling can be there for months.
I would advice you, to mention this to your doctor!

update - just had my scan
hi all
i managed to arrange an ultrasound scan. thankfully it was normal. they thought the epididymis looked a bit inflamed, so that may explain it. certainly no sign of mass or tumour.
i feel very relieved.
i have a urology appointment on wed, so will update you then. still a bit puzzled about this recurrent swelling.
thanks for your interest. let's keep this forum busy - it's a great resource for worried men (and family)

No offence was taken I just wanted you to know that typically the testicle is not painful. I agree with Brian that you should visit a urologist and get this taken care of.

i had no other symptoms when i was diagnosed other than a dull ache in lower abdomen(groin area). they were not even suggesting cancer and tried antibiotics for possible infections and month later i had swelling in one testical because i pinched it while siiting down one day. no lumps or bumps could be found in physical exam. ultarsound reveiled of course the worst expected. tumors in both testicals. i'm not trying to scare you but i would see a urologist and get an ultasound done to be safe. even with mine spreading to the stomach area they were still doing antibiotics before the ultrasound was done. so get an ultrasound done!!! it would seem if it is orchitis again there has to be some kind of underlying problem thats causing this to re-occur. keep us updated!!

hi thanks for the reply
i certainly didn't mean TC was painless! i just re-read that and realised it could be offensive. i meant that i'd heard TC usually doesn't present with physical pain. thought i'd just clear that up!
i don't have any other symptoms, although i did have an itchy left nipple recently. that cleared up spontaneously and there is no breast development going on.
18 months ago the urologist didn't give me any treatment - he just said that the orchitis is usually viral and should clear itself up with some painkillers. sure enough, it did resolve within a few days.

I wouldn't say tc is painless it's just that the pain is typically not in the testicle. It's quite common for the pain to present itself in the lower back or as sensitive nipples. What did the urologist do for the orchitis? Do you have any other symptoms that make you think it could be tc?

swollen painful testicle
Hi
I am a 32 yr old male with a painful swollen right testicle. It's been like this for about 1 week, following a trip to the gym. It's not severe, and i feel well otherwise (no fever etc).
There are no lumps to feel, but it's slightly tender. My doctor couldn't feel any lumps either and referred me to a urologist.
I had a similar episode 18 months ago. That time I had a normal ultrasound and the urologist said it was probably a virus (causing orchitis).
I will let you know what happens this time, but i was wondering what else could cause this (except TC).
Is it possible to get orchitis twice? On the same side?
I heard that TC is usually painless? Is that true?
Anyone out there with the same problem?
Thanks guys,
