  • Doctors appointment Tuesday. Only 18 and extremely nervous. Does this sound like TC?

EDIT: Sorry for this massive wall of text. I kind of got carried away and started venting lol. I understand if you don't want to read it but I would truly appreciate any advice and just any conversation really. It's kind of hard to find people in the real world to comfortably talk to about this.

I have had a dull ache in my right testicle that occasionally comes and go for at least the last 6 months. I never thought much of it for two reasons:

1 - I asked a couple of my friends about it and they said they both occasionally get a similar ache.

2 - I had a physical a few months ago for something completely unrelated and the doctor did not notice anything wrong when she checked my testicles during the physical.

Now usually this dull ache type pain comes and goes. It usually shows up every 30 minutes to an hour for a day or two and then goes away for weeks at a time before I get anothing pain there at all.

Up until last week that is. Last week the pain came back but I didn't really think anything of it at first because it is not a debilitating pain or really even all that painful to begin with. It is just there and annoying if that makes any sense. I figured I would do a self examination just to check and this is when I scared myself half to death. I was feeling around my right testicle and at first I could not feel or see anything out of the ordinary. That was until I tightened the skin up around my right testicle with my fingers and started rolling it back and forth. I could see a small lump about this size: o

Once I seen a lump I made a doctors appointment right away and they said they could see me in two weeks but my mom called around and she got me an appointment this Tuesday so that is good I guess.

Anyways, here are some characteristics about this lump:

1 - It can only be seen and barely felt. Seriously. This lump is so soft and so small in length that I can barely feel it with my fingers. The only reason I even noticed it is because I noticed it protruding through the tightened skin around the testicle.

2 - It can only be seen if the skin on my scrotum is loose and I tighten the skin around my testicle with my fingers and roll it back and forth. It's basically invisible to the naked eye, you have to be looking for it.

3 - It is extremely soft. It is not hard at all. It feels almost exactly the same as the testicle itself. The only difference is that if I move it back and forth with my finger on top of it, I can feel a small lump on top of the testicle.

4 - I can put a fair amount of pressure on the lump without feeling really any pain. Sometimes I'll feel a very faint pain if I press on it too hard but nothing much.

5 - Since finding the lump, I have been noticing very mild lower back and groin pain. This is so mild that it does not stop me from doing anything and in all honesty it could just be me connecting unrelated issues and scaring myself because I seen that back and groin pain are symptoms of testicular cancer on google.

Also, ever since I found this lump, the ache that I use to get every couple weeks, is now pretty much constant. It will go away for about 10 minutes and then come back. It has been doing this since I found the lump last week. Now keep in mind, this could be due to the fact that I have pretty much been messing with my right testicle at least 50% of the time I'm awake since I found this lump so that could be the reason the ache is getting worse. I tend to obsess over symptoms that could indicate a serious illness. I'm pretty sure I have cyberchondria I'm 18 and I have already diagnosed myself with colon cancer, brain cancer, and now testicular cancer. This one is a little bit different though as this is the first time I have actually seen a lump to go along with the pain.

Anyways, sorry for making this so long. I just needed to vent and wanted some opinions and people to talk to about this. I hope nothing is wrong with me but at this point I just want to find out so I can stop googling my symptoms 6 hours a day (literally, I can't stop )

I'm just really scared. Most 18 year old boys are getting ready for parties and summer time. I'm getting ready to possibly be told I have cancer.

All comments and advice are appreciated.

I just wanted to say I know how you feel as I've been going through a lot of anxiety over my testicles as well recently after finding a lump several months ago and then having an ultrasound of them a few months ago, and after a stressful weekend my fear came rushing back. I have a urology appointment on Tuesday as well for this. From what I've read during my google searches that I wish I wouldn't do, the type of lump that is concerning is hard and immovable. One person mentioned that it was like a ball bearing protruding from their testicle. I have lower back/pelvic and groin pain as well which is one of the main reasons I started worrying again, but it could be from a bunch of different things, probably the least of which is TC.

Out of curiosity, what were your ultrasound results?

        First, stop googling.
This website (tc-cancer.com) has all the good info you need. Another good site is The Testicular Cancer Research Center ( http://tcrc.acor.org/index.html ).

Both sites can show you how to do a proper self exam if you do not know how already. I strongly suggest you read up on that. You are correct that excessive manipulation may be causing your pain at this point. It is highly unlikely that any back or groin pain is related to this, so stop worrying about that

You are doing the right thing by seeing a doctor. That is the only way to find out for sure what is going on. It is probably nothing serious, but you need to know for sure.

        Hope that helps,
        Dave

Yes stop googling. It'll only drive you crazier. My lump was hard and didn't move at all which from what I've been told is bad, obviously since I had cancer. A doctor will be able to tell for sure and they might order an ultrasound just to verify what is in there.

Try not to check yourself to often, as that can cause issues with discomfort and pain. Checking once a month is usually recommended.

The results came out as 'unremarkable'. Which I was told means they didn't see anything abnormal.
