  • Very hard large lump - bottom of right testicle.

    Hi,

Just a few days ago I suddenly noticed a large (size of a grape) lump at the bottom of my right testicle. Its uncomfotable, and when squeezed firmly, it feels exactly the same as being kicked in the balls, except more intense. Just after discovering the lump, it was painful for two days. Uncomfortable to sit, and even painful when walking. Just a big uncomfortable, aching lump that was unpleasant and painful to touch.

I went to the doctor who said it could be a cyst or infection. He asked if i had the mumps recently and i said no. he gave me antibiotics and said if it doesnt clear up, to come back.

Now here is my question: Is it possible for something like this to spring up very quickly? I am the kind of guy who watches TV with his balls in his hand, so could I have missed it if it took a while to grow? Im wondering if i missed it because it only started to hurt at a certain point?

I should also mention that around 6 weeks ago, I noticed a slight burning sensation when urinatiing. This lasted for some time, maybe a month or so.

Also, how the hell could anything filled with fluid (if it is a cyst) be so damn hard? Its not as hard as bone, but it is certainly very very firm.

One more thing: The lump seems to curve slightly around the bottom of the testicle. When i feel around it, its almost as if it is part of tubes running under the testicle. On the opposite teticle, there are the same kind of tubes, except no lump. Is this any clue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Its very worrying and strange to suddenly have this huge hard lump on the right testicle. One day nothing... the next, its suddenly something i am aware of...

Mine felt the same way for a few weeks and I finally went to the doctor Pain in the groin and leg with a hard mass on the right one. If it doesn't clear up I am sure you will be sent for ultrasound that will tell them if it is a cyst or not.

Yosh, it sounds as though it's likely to be epididymitis. Think how solid a tire feels filled up with just air.

Thanks very much Brian and scott.

Scott: Does epididymitis occur at the bottom too? All cases I have read about occured at the top.

Thanks for the great diagram. My lump definitely feels like a very hard swollen tail end of the epididymis in that diagram. WIth a definite round ending at the bottom of the testicle.

ONE MORE QUESTION: Does this thing clear up by itself or do I need an operation?

Ultrasound next week. I'll let you know.

        Once again, thank you.

I'm pretty sure the tail of the epididymis can get infected. Antibiotics will probably clear things up.

Like Scott said, if it's any kind of infection then antibiotics should clear it up... but be careful with this. I was in the same position as you, a large painful lump just appeared out of nowhere one day (and I did self-exams religiously, my mom was a nurse assistant so I learned about these things at a very young age). I was originally diagnosed with epidydimitis and the antibiotics (doxycycline) did clear it up at first, but a couple months later it came back and antibiotics weren't helping, so I insisted on blood tests and an ultrasound to find out what was really going on.

It ended up being cancer, an embryonal / yolk sac tumor on my right testicle.

My advice would be to take the antibiotics, but also get an ultrasound to find out what's really going on.

                i have same as yosh88

                Hi all,
after reading many forums on the internet yosh88 seems to have the exact same symptoms as me.Unless i completely messed up my lump was suddenly there. its a big hard lump on the back of my lelf testicle same as yosh88. I waited for my Docs to open the next day and he has made me an appointment for an ultrasound scan,in about 2 weeks!!! so i'm currently in looking into getting it done private early next week.
I will let you know how i got on. Incidentally before i found lump i had a seriously upset stumach and high temperature, anything to do with it?

                  Hey Seed,

The stomach thing and fever are all on their own, probably some kind of 24 hour bug. Good on you for taking steps to move the appointment up!

When you say "hard", is the lump attached to the testicle and truly hard, as you can not feel if it is liquid filled or move it around?

                  Keep us posted.
                  Best,

                  Zsolt

                    Aegean,thanks for reply,
i wouldn't say lump was soft but its attached to testicle at the bottom half back it does move seperatly. Also about it seems to be what is discribed as a bag of worms

That's a good sign (that it moves) and makes it sound like it is not likely to be TC. Of course an ultra sound is needed to be certain.

                          Result!!!!!!!!!!

Just woke up to find my lump had almost disapeared. There still a very small lump connected to what feels like a bag of worms at back of testicle. I was getting worried as lump had swelled to almost the size of my testicle, but last night i did noticed it was getting softer and less sore.
As i had a very severe upset stumach last week my Doc put me on antibiotics which i finished last night. Could this have been an infection knocked on the head by antibiotics?
It has gone down as quickly as it swelled up.will still get ultrasound done as its booked and 'just in case'
                          Cheers to all
