  • Concerned Wife...some advice??

My husband had an "episode" about a week and a half ago where he had some left (fairly acute) abdominal pain. He thought it was constipation and utimately he felt better. As of Friday (12/15), he noticed some tenderness in the testicular area and that it just hasnt felt right. On Saturday afternoon, he noticed a BB sized lump (hard and not painful to touch/just generalized pain/discomfort) on his left testicle. He said it was more toward the bottom and it doesnt sound like any of the benign possibilities (varicocele, etc.), but what do I know??

He is going to MGH ER this evening (his sister has been an ER nurse there for years and years) and will have an ultrasound, etc. so we'll know something. It's just that I am pretty scared and was wondering what you all thought??

Does this sound familiar? What are your thoughts??

    THANKS!

    Beth,

An ultrasound will most definitely tell you weather or not the lump is solid or not, so you'll know a lot more after tonight.. Just try not to get ahead of yourself and see what they come up with tonight. Its good that he is going to get it checked out to be on the safe side.

Hope all goes well and let us know what happens.

I concur with the gentlemen who have posted a response. Mine started as what seemed a dull back pain (I thought I had been pulled something after lugging my 18-month-old kid). A couple of hours later I realized the problem was coming from elsewhere, and off to the ER I went.

MGH just treated Phil Kessel, so I'm sure your husband will be in great hands. Best of luck to him. P-A-T-S, PATS, PATS, PATS!!!

          Thanks for the responses...

Thanks to all of you for the responses. I am home alone with the three kids, trying to be patient! Will let you know when we know anything.

I feel fortunate to live in such a good medical town - Boston (and football town...and baseball town (2007)...).

Thanks again...the waiting is so hard.

            No final US reads, but...

The technician said it was "cystlike"...so I am hoping that it is a cyst! Will post once he calls with final...

                    Beth:
There's nothing wrong with being worried, you did the right thing getting as much information as you could. Congratulations on the all clear.

                      Well...back to worrying...

Ok...so today my husband had a followup with the urologist. The MD is "concerned" because the US report read hypoechoic lesion 5mm (which he says does not necessarily indicate cyst) and also the lump is "in the meat of the testicle" and not on the surface or floating. He has followup US on Tuesday and then we meet with urologist on 1/18.

So...does this sound familiar to anyone? I googled "hypoechoic" and it doesnt seem too encouraging. The tc-acor website basically defined it as almost always malignant...

                      Any thoughts are appreciated.

                      Beth

Well, that's not what we had hoped for, Beth! This is sounding like testicular cancer, and I'd push to move things along faster.

                          Hey Beth,

During my diagnostic ultrasound, they found a 3 mm hyperechoic mass on my remaining testicle. My urologist scheduled me for a contralateral ultrasound in 6 months. The med onc I recently saw wanted it done sooner (in 6 weeks). If there is such urgency for 3 mm, I would expect there one to be for a 5 mm one. The good thing is that the appointments are already set up, so you are in great shape. Keep up the good work!

                          GO PATS!

I would push to get in sooner. No need in waititng around for a couple of weeks when you know what needs to take place. I would be very vigilant about getting in to get this taking care of now!

                              Had followup US...

So...my husband had the follow-up US today. The good news is that he was able to move the follow-up appointment to THIS Thursday at 1:20. At least we won't have to wait another week! The US tech only said that "there is something there"...

So...it seems to me that the odds that this is NOT TC are pretty low...

                              Will keep you posted.
Thanks for all the feedback. All responses are so appreciated!
