  • What to expect at ultrasound?

So I am going for an ultrasound on tuesday and was curious what to expect.

    How long does it take?

Do they check both testicles or just the one they think has a lump?

Not to make a joke, but what if the technician is a good looking woman and you get a little excited? (How embarrasing!)

How long does it usually take to get results?

    Thanks in advance!

You'll be so nervous that "excitement" is unlikely. (Then again, my technician was a pokerfaced Asian guy with a chromedome.) Other than that, the procedure is painless. It's a bit long (about 10-15 minutes). Both testicles should get checked. They will probably do doppler as well, to look at bloodflow. I'm not sure if they do doppler if they see nothing suspicious.

Essentially, they spread a vaseline like gel on your boys and just scan with a wand-like thing that stays in contact with your scrotum. It's a bit messy, and a little embarrassing, but it's completely painless.

    Good luck!

    Regards,

Speaking from my own experiences, results are usually available the same day (depending on the time of your appointment). During the ultrasound where they detected my mass, the technician performed the ultrasound and then stepped outside the room to discuss the results with the radiologist (not sure if it was over the phone or right there in person). She obviously saw something that didn't look normal on her screen. Then, she came back in the room and in an urgent manner told me that my general practioner would be following up with me shortly. She wasn't allowed/certified to give me the results, but I pretty much knew. My GP followed up about 2 hours later and got me an appointment with a urologist for the next day.
