  • A little nervous

    Hello,

During the day last monday (3/19) I began to develop an ache/pain in my lower back and testicles almost simultaneously. The feeling in the back has lingered and feels more or less the same today as it did then. The testicular ache has somewhat subsided I think but is still present.

I did a thorough exam and found nothing abnormal immediately after I noticed the pain. I have continued to do exams and come up empty each time but I guess I might even be causing some of the ache at this point.

I was in for a pretty thorough blood test last week with a hematologist as I had 2 separate blood tests (as part of a physical) in early January that came back with slightly decreased WBC counts (3.9, 3.7, 3.8 in that order). The test with the hematologist came back the same and he did not seem overly concerned with any part of it but I do have a followup next Friday (4/6). Would anything have shown in a CBC and then some to indicate a problem of this nature?

I'm at college in PA and live in MA so thats where my doctors are and it is an understatement to say it is inconvenient to travel back - but if this may be serious I would not hesitate to. Should I be concerned about this at all and get checked out before 4/6?

    Thank you!

You won't find any indication of cancer in bloodwork unless the doctor ordered very specific testing. The chances of have tc are very small but don't risk it get yourself to a urologist for an exam. Sometimes the tumor is inside the testicle and can't be detected that easily.

      Johnboy,
I think you should go in and be seen by a doctor, and then the next step would be an UltraSound and visit to a urologist, if there is anything abnormal.

Do I think you need to do this before 4/6?? I would- but not because of the symptoms you have described, but simply that you have taken the time to register and post onto this site. Clearly you are concerned that something is wrong, you will feel better by finding out what, if anything, is wrong.

Thanks you both for the responses.

I'm not really all that concerned with it, I'm just anxious - that's how I am. It's just my nature to want to have an explanation for everything immediately.

I should have mentioned this before, but as I said the pain appeared last Monday. The day before I had gone for a decent run and it was the first one of that magnitude since I broke my foot in November. I suppose its possible I strained something then. I just get nervous when I read about all this stuff online.

Neither of you sound like this is necessarily anything critical to get looked at asap so I think I'll see what happens this week and maybe make an appt for Friday and if not, I'd be at the doc next week anyway.

        Does that sound reasonable?

ps - I tend to notice the testicular ache moreso with jeans on than just lounging around in gym shorts. Would this tend to indicate an inflmation over something more serious?

Oh I wouldn't put off getting this checked. The chances of it being tc are very small but some forms of tc can spread with amazing speed. Do you feel a heaviness in the testicle any nipple sensitivity?

Does your college offer Health Services? If so, it can't hurt to check in with them.

They do, but I don't have much confidence in them and would not trust them for something like this.

I would rather make a weekend trip home to talk to my own doctor if thats something that should be done.

If your college health service can arrange for an ultrasound that would be great. It will be read by a pro not someone from a school office.
