    Hello everyone,

Let me just introduce myself... I'm a 22 year old male and for a while now I've had a tiny lump on my right testicle. It is definately attached to the testicle and not the scrotum. The lump is hard and feels like a grain of rice but a tiny bit bigger. Im not sure if it's grown in size since I first noticed it, but I think it has grown a tiny bit bigger. It is at the bottom right side of the right testii.

Every so often I get a dull ache in my testicles, groin and lower abdomen. It's not painful just an ache.

I'd like peoples honest opinions on what the chances are that this could be cancer? I've prepared myself mentally for this so I'm not affraid to hear the worse.

    Jord,
There is no real way to know without going to see a doctor and getting it checked out. I suggest you try to do that today, or tomorrow. Find out for sure- then you will feel better with an action plan.
You can start with your primary care physician, then if warranted off to a urologist.
Stage III. Embryonal Carcinoma, Mature Teratoma, Choriocarcinoma.
Diagnosed 4/19/06, Right I/O 4/21/06, RPLND 6/21/06, 4xEP, All Clear 1/29/07, RPLND Incisional Hernia Surgery 11/24/08, Hydrocelectomy and Vasectomy 11/23/09.

Please see a physician for medical advice!

I really can't give odds on what the doctors will find but a hard lump that feels as if it's part of the testicle must be examined. Your best bet is to see a urologist.

Yes I am going to book an apointment with my GP for sometime over the next week. But I persume they'll just have a check and say there's nothing to worry about, as the lump is tiny. But I'd rather know for sure if there is or isn't something wrong. Hopefully they'll send me for an ultrasound.

Don't let the doctor assume anything based on the size of the lump. If it is serious you certainly want to find out while the lump is small.

As the others said, get this checked out. I want to add that you should do this immediately, regardless of the size of the lump.
My son had a tiny lump that he thought was nothing, and the first ultrasound he had at the emergency room, called it a "tiny hematoma"

Within 3 weeks the entire testicle was a solid mass, and a few weeks later the diagnosis was made. By then the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes in the abdominal area.

If it is TC, it spreads very fast, so it is important to move very fast, because it is also highly curable. Prompt diagnosis and treatment can spare you having to go through more extensive treatment for more advanced disease.

I don't mean to sound the alarm bells, but I think it's better that you know how important it is to move quickly. I worry that people will brush it off as being nothing and wait around to see if symptoms worsen. Please don't.

I also want to add that my son had groin and abdominal pain, which is what promted me to take him to the ER in the first place.

The lump has always been small, I think it has grown a tiny bit but nothing major. Do cancerous growths in the testicles ALWAYS grow large or does it vary, could a cancerous lump stay the same size?

                mstlyn,

I've had this lump for quite a while already and it has only slightly grown in size. I have been putting it off and putting it off for ages, but it has hardly grown at all. I will get it checked out within the next week as I want to know for sure now.

I have never heard of a cancerous growth "lump" staying the same size, but maybe someone else on the forum has. How long ago did you first notice the lump?

It may very well be something else, but there is no way to know that without having it checked out.

I'm not too sure but it's been more than a year since I found the lump. It has grown in size but not by much.

Thats what matters. Then you will know.
Hopefully it will be something else, and you will feel better knowing. Remember though that if it is TC, there is very good, highly effective treatment for it.

                        Jord,
Welcome to the Forum. Any lump that is found attached to the testicle warrants a check-up. A testicle is a 3D object, and not all growth is outwards. The masses can also be found inside the testicle. Some guys don't even feel a lump; I didn't. When you go see your GP, push to get an ultrasound. Like others have said, it's a simple way to rule out other things such as a cyst or a hydrocele.

Thanks for the welcome Fed and yes your right I should push for an ultrasound so I know for sure.

Paul54, I totally agree... If I had children and one of them came to me with this situation we'd be at the doctors before they'd even finished the sentance.

I shall phone up to book an appointment on my lunch for sometime this week.

I'm glad you agree that pushing for an ultrasound is the thing to do, because a lot of doctors brush symptoms off as nothing too. I have seen many people on this forum that were misdiagnosed. Some more than once.

My son was misdiagnosed the first time, and then for several weeks he was under the watch of his doctor that figured it was an infection that was getting better.

He finally sent him for an ultrasound, which only said that a "mass" could not be ruled out.

Then they gave us a referral to see a urologist, who said, "it's cancer" only after physical examination.

He then had another urologist come in, and he said the same thing. Then they did another ultrasound and scheduled surgery to 9 days later, which I have learned after going through all of this with my son, should have been done within 24 hrs. of diagnosis.

This is definitely one of those things that you have to be on your toes about.
