  • Hi concerned 17.

I'm 17 yeard old. I have a strange lump on the bottom of my left testicle right where the Epididymis is. It isn't really hard its more of a "solid-jello-feel". Here is a good idea of where it is. http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?image=diagramek5.jpg
The arrow is pointing at my strange lump and exact shape of where it is. It curves like the way its drawn there. Could it be a strand of the Epididymis or a vein or a cyst (not exactly sure what or how a cyst is shaped)? So that is why I'm very confused and worry about what it may be. I didn't tell my parents but I asked them for a doctors appointment checkup. I told the doctor in private and he checked and felt it, but i was not relaxed so my scrotum was stiff. I don't think he was thorough and told me that he was sure its nothing and told me it could be from puberty, sexual intercourse, or masterbation. I asked for ultrasound but he said he felt no mass lump and it should be fine. Should I be concerned or should I try to go to a urologist directly for a ultrasound test to be safe? I forgot to mention I do feel a sore feeling but not until I started to feel around. I was told by a website that its like your eyes if you poke around a lot your eyes get sore is that true?
edit: I am turning 18 this friday and I won't be insured. Is ultrasound expensive?

From your description, it doesn't sound as though you need to worry. I'd keep up the regular self-examination. As you noted, you don't need to check constantly; you'll make yourself sore.

Thanks for the advice. Should I still consider finding a urologist or should I wait.

I don't dare ever tell anyone, "You don't need to see a doctor." What if I'm wrong?

If I were you I would see a doctor. If nothing else you will sleep better.

I saw a doctor and he said it was nothing... But I don't think he found what I found. I'm worried that he isn't that knowledgable about it because he told me its not likely for someone as young as me to get cancer. I told him TC is very common for my age group. Should I see a urologist to be a 100% sure with a ultrasound test.

Yes see a urologist. You deserve a checkup by someone who cares.

You're right that testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer for young men, but it's still pretty rare. Although the odds are in your favor that it's something else, it sounds as though it's going to keep bugging you until you at least talk to a urologist.

I have never heard of a cyst where you explained it could be, so I reckon it is just epididymis. But other guys are right, you better see an urologist so you can finally put your mind at rest and concentrate on other things.

Let us know what an urologist said!
