18 / Lump + Minor Lower Back Pain

Hi all,

Ok.. I'm just turning 18 years old in February 2007, and for the past 4 weeks or so, i've noticed a lump.. BUT its not actually on my testical, its a lump the size of a marble that seems to be near my right testical. I can put preasure on it, and it doesnt seem to hurt, but if i keep touching/feeling it, it seems to be some how attached to my right testical ?? I know this sounds extremly weird.. but for over a month now I think about it every day and night! Both parents keep asking me " are you alright " as they have noticed i've been more quite as usual. This is because I cant stop thinking about it !!!

For the past 2 days, I have infact had a few twinges in my lower back (both sides of my hips - but on my back. if that makes sence) and that has made me think even more its cancer.

The lump is infact noticable and ive got a strong feeling it is cancer (please plesae please i hope its not).. I am going to try and make an appointment at the doctors soon.. ( i just want to get Christmas and the New Year out the way, incase i actually get bad news)

Hello and Welcome
The best thing that you can do is get to the doctor if you think something isn't right. Most of the time it will NOT be cancer but might be something that needs to be addressed. Remember that most of us thought it was nothing and waited to see the doctor thinking it would go away, but call the doctor and get you apt set up since most will be very busy coming back from xmas vacations. Try not to worry too much remember this is very rare but is something that needs to be looked at by the doctor to rule out if anything is wrong.

I think there are some important notes to consider and they may help provide you with some reassurance:

"Find the epididymis, the soft, tubelike structure behind the testicle that collects and carries sperm. If you are familiar with this structure, you won't mistake it for a suspicious lump. Cancerous lumps usually are found on the sides of the testicle but can also show up on the front. Lumps on the epididymis are not cancerous."

"Please note that free floating lumps in the scrotum that are not attached in any way to a testicle are not testicular cancer."

Lastly, as it notes, "Remember, only a physician can make a positive diagnosis. For that matter, only a physician can make a negative diagnosis too. If you think something feels strange, go see the doctor"
