The Lance Armstrong Foundation has announced the 2007 LIVESTRONG Challenge!
    • Philadelphia, PA - August 25-26, 2007
    • Portland, OR - September 29-30, 2007
    • Austin, TX - October 12-14, 2007

You can help the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) fulfill its mission to inspire and empower cancer survivors! Founded in 1997 by testicular cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the LAF believes that in the battle with cancer, unity is strength, knowledge is power, and attitude is everything. From the moment of diagnosis, the Foundation provides the practical information and tools people living with cancer need to live strong. The LAF supports people affected by cancer through research, advocacy, and public health programs.

2007 is my fifth year raising funds and awareness for the LAF. This year, I will ride in the LIVESTRONG Challenge Philadelphia on August 26, 2007. My goal is to raise $20,000.

Please join me in supporting the important work of the Lance Armstrong Foundation by making a secure online donation at this link.

Thank you for your support! Your donation will have far-reaching effects for those living with cancer, their loved ones and healthcare providers. Together, we will win this fight.

Well, it appears that they listened (1) Lance Armstrong is actually going to be there and (2) the entrance fee is $250 + $50 registration - half the cost of last year. Sooo, you Chester County TC survivors and co-survivors...are we going to form our own contingent to add to Scott's team? And you guys from New Jersey who said "there must be something in the water..."

It wasn't easy for me to reach my $15,000 goal last year, but people really came through. I'm aiming higher this year, for the "polka dot jersey" level at $20,000. Every sponsorship dollar counts!

OK Mom, I'm in- but I have to tell you, I still get winded walking to the mailbox! (I'm just one week off the chemo).
Maybe when the weather gets warmer, the Chester County/NJ team can run a couple training rides down the Schullkill River Trail?? Just as long as we stay away from that damn Manayunk Wall...
I really look forward to this, not only getting into shape- but just doing the right thing for cancer research.
I see Dr. Vaughn next week, so I'll ask him if he knows of anyone who may also be interested in riding.

Are they going to let you golf instead of ride. I know the people at LAF let you get away with that I don't think the tri people will.

Joe - I'll be there but am still debating whether to do the 5k or bike. I prefer running but would really like a 10k. 5k just isnt worth the effort but I hate those hills in PA (Im from lovely, FLAT South Jersey!!!).

Saw your post mentioned Dr Vaughn. My husband is also a patient of his. Small world and one hell of a great doctor (and nursing staff too!!!).

See you all in August, or in Dr Vaughns office, whichever is sooner !

I'll be in Philly. Can't wait. I'm on for the 100 mile ride. Thing is, I don't have a road bike, have never been on a road bike and have never gone 100 miles.

But hey, it's supposed to be a challenge!

Oh, and I haven't done any kind of fund raiser aside from selling m&ms as a cub scout. See all the wonderful new things cancer is teaching me. This is going to rock!

All in all not as crazy as it sounds. I have a great family and great group of supporters so the fundraising, while it will be a challenge, is a realistic goal. Also, I ride a mountain bike quite a bit so fitness level is not a concern just nervous about getting used to riding close to a lot of people. If all goes well it will be a personal accomplishment and to support a fantastic cause. I'm psyched!

There is no reason all of the forum member's can't ride together as one big support group. Kinda like we have here.

You're probably better off on a mountain bike. A very long time ago, BC (before child!!!) when I was young and naive, I joined my friends in a bike ride outside the Philly area. While Id ridden in numerous group rides before that I had always biked in South Jersey - very flat. So here I go on my nice road bike with my clipless pedals and I hit a hill. Well, I ran out of gears trying to get up that baby and since I couldnt get my shoes out of the clips fast enough I literally FELL OVER bike and all! HA! I can laugh now but it now but it wasnt so funny then!!! Ever since then Ive been very "hinkey" about riding with clipless pedals in group rides and taking on hills. Although I did learn enough to have my bike regeared!!!!

But, whatever bike we ride, or even if we run, the important thing is that just we show up;raise money and support; and have FUN!!
