  • Increasing ads to reduce Forum costs

I just read "Sharing how TC-Cancer exists Financially"
I suggest we increase ad space it, if possible, so we can help off set James's personal contribution to run this site.

I was the one who voted to not increase add space. This is a big issue and I certainly don't want James to pay this out of pocket, I also don't want people getting the impression that this is a for profit web page because we run adds. I want the 11th to be a celebration but this may have to be discussed along with the idea of honoring the fallen.
Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04. Full open RPLND 10/13/04. All Clear since.

Treated by Dr. Rakowski of Midland Park, NJ. Visited Sloan Kettering for protocol advice. RPLND done at Sloan Kettering.

That is so nice of you guys to worry about that - but I just voted NO too. I think there is a better way to proceed in growing this community. We are exploring options but I stress the point - I get my use out of the server so I dont think of it as paying for TC-Cancer.com expenses. Please no worries!

          AB,
Thanks for posting this and trying to help out James and the site! Increasing ads would bring in more $, but when that was done in the past we had a big banner space at the top that many of us found annoying and distracting from the site. We also have some ads slipping through that really don't belong....like the one for a site that you can post e-mails to friends and have them sent after you pass on. Creepy. When I weigh the pros an cons I am in favor of keeping the site less cluttered and the ads relevant, tasteful, and in the background. Of course I also don't like James paying out of pocket to keep us going...although I know he does it from the heart, and we really appreciate that James!

James, I really think you should get a non-profit tax id number from the IRS. I can see a lot of possibilities. Dianne

              James,
Have you shopped for hosting elsewhere? $800 + seems quite expensive these days. I assume this a dedicated server; do you own the server?

When you get a chance check out http://www.1and1.com they have some great deals on dedicated hosting. The company I work for owns 5 dedicated servers and hosts them at http://www.datapipe.com. I don't think datapipe is a cheap as 1and1 but their support is great.

I see the tc-cancer.com is in php and although I am not php guy if there is anything I can help with please let me know. I have been building insurance websites for large companies for several years now. I program in vb.net and c#.
