  • I am excited: LiveStrong Day at the ball park is official!

I am so excited about our LiveStrong Day with the Durham Bulls baseball team that I had to come here and spill my excitement out all over the place. In fact I was squealing I was so delighted after we met with the manager of the baseball team today.

A bit of background: Boyce and I wanted to raise money for LiveStrong and we decided about 3 months ago to meet with the Durham Bulls Baseball team and see if they would be interested in helping us. We were happily surprised that they were very excited about our ideas. The player’s jerseys are normally white with the bull’s logo in blue and black. Well, the jerseys have been dyed “LiveStrong” yellow and they have the LiveStrong logo on them. They turned out beautiful!

The players are going to have a regular game and wear these very cool jerseys while they are playing. After the game, the players will sign their jersey and then it will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. We are also selling LiveStrong t-shirts at the game and having other items in the auction. They also made duplicates of the player’s jerseys in Child sizes so a kid could wear one too. A local bike shop is going to donate a LiveStrong bike for the auction as well.

They will be playing the LiveStrong manifesto on the jumbo-tron and I will be at a table with lots of literature about cancer and how people can get involved. Boyce will get to go out on the field before the game during the announcements. We are hoping to raise 10k for the cause.

At our meeting today with the baseball team, it all started really coming together. I am so excited about the event and I can’t believe it is really going to happen!! When the web-link goes up I will post it. For anyone that wants more information, you can always e-mail me [email protected]

Really taking action for something you are passionate about feels fantastic!

So I forgot to mention that Boyce and I were on the radio on Friday morning promoting the game and talking to people about LiveStrong. It was interesting and I am sure reached more people than we could have with out doing it. I was so nervous I barely spoke but Boyce did great!!

I just wish we had the money to fly all of you here for the game. I would love to meet everyone in person!! We are in North Carolina, so if anyone is ever in our neck of the woods, you have an open invitation and we have plently of room.

Hi Margaret, Thanks for asking about my brother. He is doing and acting like his old self. To think a year ago, I would be sitting with him while he was going through chemo. Worst days of my life. A couple weeks back about a half inch from where his Bi-lat RPLND was, had opened, but it's fine now. I still once in a while try to get him to go back to the doctors, but he still refuses. I can only hope with what he has gone through, that the cancer is infact gone, that, that one extra dose of chemo he refused didn't hurt his outcome. To think that one extra cycle would put his survival way high, I don't know, then when I think of the men here that would do anything to be in his shoes instead than the worse things that are happening, just makes me so angry. But this site here, my god, what would I do without it, and you and everyone that has helped me through. That's the importance of talking to people, which my brother never did, and still doesn't. Everyone deals in their own way. You and Boyce choose to fight in anyway possible, and that is incouraging. God Bless
