Russell shared that he heard about TC every year in school since about the 7th grade. It is the reason he was self checking. Too bad the healthcare profession in California was so far behind. (completely missing the diagnosis for months-year + ) Sharon

Wow I never would have put N.J. at the top of the progressive list but my wife will have no trouble presenting this information. It falls well within the guidelines for subject matter to be covered in her health classes. What state are you from that this would be a problem?

School Boards
Great idea, but the problem will be the school boards. Some will do it, but some won't, as their view is that if you let one group come in , you have to let them all come in. I tried to do something once, and everyone was " if they can do it, so can we ".
The teachers I know in our state, could not just download the " lesson" from the website and use it. They would be in trouble. Like I said, we tried it once. A good lesson we learned was to start with the Principal or the School Board directly.
Understanding that all States are different, but most now have some sort of policy about these things, because someone may have a problem with the color yellow, and file a lawsuit. Hate to see a teacher get in trouble for doing something good and right.

Thank you for posting this. The timing is perfect. Just this afternoon my 9 year old asked me "Why did Daddy have to get sick?".
So maybe I can find something those lessons that will help her understand some of this...since it is still continuing.
We school at home through a virtual school, so I can just add it on to her current lessons if I find something that works.
Thanks!
Becki

I was really stoked when I heard about it at the Austin dinner. It is such a no-brainer! Teach kids when they are young so they'll realize the importance of fighting this... brilliant!

LIVESTRONG at School
During the LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin, I heard for the first time about a new program from the Lance Armstrong Foundation called "LIVESTRONG at School." It's available now at http://www.livestrong.org/school, and the program promises to "help you to fundamentally change the way your students think about cancer."
Lesson materials are available for elementary, middle, and high schools. If you're a teacher, or a parent of school-age children, check it out! It may be something you want to use or promote in your community.Tags: None
