It all worked out -- sort of

My cousin was able to get his hands on a pair of tickets
so after debating trying to get a ticket in the same section (topshelf actually had some real close) or just going to the streets and hoping something would work out

my cousin offered to take Liam out on his boat
so he and liam spent the day fishing

and my dad and I went to the game

great seats -- and was an amazing game to watch

the cubs beat the sox 15 to 11

at one point the cubs box score was

    7 0 0 4 (july 4th -- sort of)

ironically the seat next to me was empty and remained that way for the whole game

    Thanks for trying Kman

    No worries

We will get into the game

I will walk the streets of wrigley ville until something materializes
    (usually works)

    Thanks Again

    Dan

P.S.: hopefully in a few days I will be posting the a story of tickets magically materializing

Just had a recollection of going to a sold out Cub game 2 years ago
Andrew had just finished up chemo and was cancer free for the moment
my Dad and I were in chicago together -- and to keep our yearly tradition went to a cub game
think it might have been Cubs - Sox --- whatever it was was sold out
I had been the day before with my cousin and was hard pressed to get good seats for less that $100
so we are walking to the game
almost stop at the Piano man to talk to Ticket Teddy (an old scalper buddy)
but I was sure something would materialize
so we walked to the park
checked the day of the game window
found out they were not leaking any tickets today
then ran into a couple women from Oklahoma -- who had 2 tickets for face value
    they were upper deck
    but decided to grab them
then we got something to eat
and had a pint of guinness
and were walking back to the park when I saw an old man in a white t-shirt standing there with his grand son
    he had two box seats
    first base line
    row 1

    amazing seats
    face was $90
    I had like $50
some guy was offering him $60 --
    but he wanted $75
I talked to him explained that I would gladly pay $75 or even face value
    but had to get cash
he had the two adjoining seats
so he took my $50 on the promise that I would bring him the rest on the inside

I sold the other tickets for face to some people desperate for affordable tix

    then went inside

I ended up sittin next to the old man
    and talked him a lot

these were his sons seats and he had just died of cancer a few weeks earlier
he told me some great stories about climbing the fence to sneak into wrigley during the great depression

my dad ended up talking to the family on his right
they had a 7 year old son who was under going chemo at the time
and this was his first ball game

was a wonderful afternoon of great conversation
    and a good ball game

    --
    so like I said
things just have a way of happening at wrigley

    Thanks Topshelf

I really appreciate your generous offer but at this point I am just going to take a wait and see approach and see what materializes

Out of curiousity-- are there people that will actually pay $20,625 for a single ticket to a Cub game????
then again if I had a spare $600k I would probably buy the entire suite

    Thanks again

    Dan

Used to live in Boston (actually moved into the apartment that Fred Lynn had just moved out of --- got a bunch of his mail - and he cam to pick it up one day)

Was a big red sox fan back in the days of Jim Rice, Pudge Fisk, Louis Tiant and the Spaceman

    ---
Last time was at Fenway -- saw the Red Sox playing the Yankees (back in 99) -- was bumming around the east coast that summer - lots of crazy experiences ranging from hanging out with Arlo Guthre and camping on his land to getting hassled by the South Windsor CT police who somehow mistook me for a suspect who looked just like me but turned out to be a 55 year old 350 pound bald man (to this day I think it was just there way of saying don't park a beat up car covered with Grateful Dead Stickers in a neighborhood full of 800k homes)
then I decided to go to boston on the spur of the moment -- had not been to fenway in years so decided I would try and get in --
ended up scoring a ticket way below face value--
sweet tickets -- lower level third baseline
the only catch was the women that gave me the ticket and was sitting next to me for the whole game -- ended up being a very loud (extremely drunk by the 5th inning) Yankees fan
and all the surrounding red sox fans just assumed that we were there together

    ---------------------

    Appreciate all your efforts

    Thanks Again
    Dan

    Dan...

I'm a huge Red Sox fan, with family and many friends as Yankee fans. I completely empathize with the heat Andrew must of taken for being a contrarian. At this point, I have emails and calls out to friends and clients in Chi-town, so I will let you know if I have any luck.

    All the best.

    that is super cool
really appreciate you looking into it

that is exactly what I am looking for
    best case 10
    but at least 3
    either date works

    Thanks

    Dan

10 years ago -- Andrew and Amy had just gotten married -- I had returned just in time from over a year of bumming around the world to be the best man ---
    the wedding was in tulsa
but had a second reception in Chicago
and on his birthday I took a group of 15 or 16 to the cubs game (back when I could call the box office and order tickets at last minute and get a group rate)and had "Happy Birthday Andrew" flash on the scoreboard

so there is a lot of memories and emotion wrapped up in this group outing to see the cubs

It looks like best case scenario, you want 10 tickets on 7/1 or 7/2? Or 3 on either date for you, Liam and your dad? Right.

I have quite a few friends and clients in Chicago, so let me know and I'll try and get you some seats.
