Mayo came back with the same results as we had.. I think that is a good thing. 70% teratoma and 30% embryonic... The only thing delaying chemo is the decision to bank sperm. He is 19 years old. What are your feelings on this?

We are to consult with the oncol. after he decide on the sperm banking. He went to the dentist today to have any thing done pre chemo, just checking to see how other people feel about the SB so I can let him know. He has no idea. Thanks for your opinion....

he's gonna feel odd with you knowing but the seriousness of the situation will make it easier to discuss. Hey dk,
Banking sperm certainly provides a worthwhile safety net. I banked before my surgery as a precautionary measure. My wife and I discussed it, and we figured it was well worth the cost. I don't know what your nephew's feelings are about having children in the future (I certainly never gave that much though when I was 19), but if there is any chance he does, I would suggest that he bank.

He is very open about having the conversation about sperm banking. I brought it to their attention as I have a cousin who at 18 had tc and it was never offered to him. He had 3 relapses and can not have children. He is now in his 40 and doing well but if he had to do it all over again he would bank it. He wishes someone would have mentioned it to him. As far as my nephew goes, your right at 19 you just aren't thinking about having children. He has thought about it and now has to make the decision. Soon I hope so he can get started on his chemo. Thanks for your advice..

I would push to have it done. It is a great safety net just in case!
