      JOTA,
Sorry you're joining the club here, but your docs sound very proactive...a VERY good thing. Only the bloodwork and pathology will tell what type of tumor it is. Bloodwork, CT scan and chest X-ray are all needed...bloodwork needs to be done before and after the I/O so they can compare levels and get an indication if there was metastesis.

Ask about these things. Visit the site already bald mentioned and read up on the questions you should ask and what to expect. Depending on the stage and type you can do surveillance, chemo, radiation, RPLND, or a combination. You need bloodwork and pathology to guide you.

The I/O won't be as bad as it sounds. I know it's hare not to stress. Please keep posting here so we can suopport you through this.

I think at this point your doctor is making an educated guess as to what you have. At 28 non-seminoma is more common then seminoma but he really won't know for sure until all of the tests are complete and that will be about a week after they remove the testicle.
It will be the results of these tests that determine if you need any further treatment.

            JOTA,
At this point, it would be necessary for you to get, at the very least, bloodwork to have your tumor markers measured. This will start painting a picture of what you are up against. If anything, you need a "baseline" reading prior to the surgery and a second test done several days after the I/O to see if the surgery caused a change in your marker levels. Believe me, the more you know about the case, the less anxious you will feel.

Hi JOTA: Let Friday the 13th be the day luck changes for you Best wishes on your upcoming orchiectomy. Andy had his procedure in the late afternoon and was discharged to go home later that night. I know this probably won't calm your nerves (but please try to find comfort in it): the procedure is very common. Just make sure to take things easy at home for a little while. We'll be thinking of you on Friday!

                Hey MRMRSU,

I know everything will be fine. Honestly taking it easy at home sounds pretty nice. I am a stay at home dad and a few days where I do not feel like I am running from the moment I get up until I go to bed will be nice.

The orchiectomy is generally outpatient surgery. I was in first thing in the morning and home before lunch.

Hi JOTA: One last good luck wish from us before your surgery. Andy said the prep took longer than the actual procedure itself! Also, he said to tell you that ice will be your best friend for a few days.

                              Happy thoughts!

Karen usually recommends a bag of frozen peas over ice. Also, your incision may "Raise" a little about a week post IO. It depends on how they close it, however mine raised so much I thought I had developed a hernia, but it was perfectly normal and went down over time.
Rest easy the next few weeks, and send us your pathology!
