You're a corker. By next year you going to be kicking some serious butt on that bike. I really wouldn't worry about your speed 13-14 mph when you ride alone is fine. That's about what I do. A lot of you speed depends on the bike. The better the bike the higher the speed.

Maybe someone can give me some advice here. Actually I would like to know where I stand. Since I got the new bike I have done 3 rides. Its an 8.2 mile loop near my house. We have a bike lane on one of the main roads next to my house and the road itself has lots of hills. Not such as easy ride for me but not that difficult either. On the last climb as I return home my legs are burning. Here are the times and speeds I traveled. I'm wondering what would be a good time and ave speed for a novas. I have nothing to gauge myself by and no one else to ride with. This coming week I plan to add at least 5 miles to my ride and do that a few times before adding a little more distance.

Ride# Date Mx Speed Ave Speed Distance Time
    1 ---- 9/12 ---- 31.2 ---- 13 ---- 8.25 ---- 38.02
    2 ---- 9/14 ---- 35.4 ---- 13.9 -- 8.18 ---- 35.19
    3 ---- 9/16 ---- 29.1 ---- 13.2 -- 8.23 ---- 37.28

    Jay,

Good deal on the new bike. I think the OCR line is what my sister just bought after her bike was stolen in Philly. She's very happy with it and she rides 4-5000 miles a year.

Mountain Top - as in near the Pocono's?

    Bart

Got out on the new bike this morning for a 10 mile ride. Its no road couch like my other bike but I have to say it was pretty comfortable for my first ride. Shifting will take a little getting used too due to the shifter configuration but again not bad. Chain fell of once while shifting so I will be taking it back to the LBS to have it adjusted. All in all I am very pleased with it and look forward to putting many miles on it.

That's the plan Scott. My goal is to do a minimum ride of 40 miles. I think this is a reasonable goal.

I did make it to the bike shop tonight just before closing and picked up my bike. Couldn't wait.

Just got back form the local bike shop and yes I did buy something. I bought a Giant OCR3. I test drove it and will be picking it up tomorrow. Didn't have time to wait today for them to put the computer on.

They had two models in stock. A 2007 and a 2006. Both brand new. The 07 was $650 and 06 was $575. So I choose the 06. The year and color didn't mean much to me. None of it matters if I don't get my butt on and ride.

So tomorrow I should be out putting some miles on my new bike.

Very nice bike. I read some reviews of it. A little too much for me right now. Have to make sure I will be cycling for a long time before spending that much money. The wife said she would kill me if I put a $1200 bike on the wall in the garage to collect dust.

I have to look at the exact model but I believe it's a Giant Alliance OCR 1. It has a composite upper body with a steel belly. It's about a $1200 bike .

I purchased a giant OCR for my ride across PA. I'm really please with it. I put 1500 miles on it this summer without one problem.
