We need to kindle that pride again. The same intensity, public shows of support, and government funding that made us the first to get to the moon need to be applied again to defeat cancer. The world is a big place.......it is nice to think that the brightest minds from every country can come together to defeat cancer, but there are just too many boundaries and too many differences in national priorities. If we want everyone to work together as a global unit, we need to catalyze the process by working together as a country to get this into high gear. Pride and power can do a lot to the human spirit.

Found the YouTube version
I finally found the YouTube link to where my question appears. Bill Richardson's "interview" is in this segment, but my (edited) question appears at about 1:20 into the video.

Hey Fed:
Excellent job!!!
I'm disapointed they didn't let you know in advance. But thanks for posting the full version.
You're absolute right about the funding cuts, its unconsionable. I'd hazard a guess that virtually everyone in the US has had a family member or friend who has had cancer. We need the program for cancer research that is the equivilent of going to the moon. It's time politicians either find or are forced to find the will to provide sufficient funding to end this disease.

That is so cool, Fed! You offer a perspective on cancer that is so unique (from supporter to patient to researcher)...it was a perfect question from someone who has truly battled the disease from all fronts. High-five from Cali!

Congrats on the question they are in my town about 100 yards from where I work. They have a livestrong school bus parked out front of the Cell Center It reminds me of the party buses from the Great Iowa Bike RideMaybe I can get a few pick tomorrow and get them posted.

I just came back home and searched through the Tivo'd show. The question was asked to Bill Richardson, but it was cut. All the background was trimmed, and they put the fragment where I actually ask the question by saying "how would you complete the play?..." To see the entire statement, click on the link on the post I made earlier in this thread.

LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum
This is the original post I made in the Ballroom (I will move this entire thread there).
Many of you may have heard that on Monday, August 27 and Tuesday, August 28, the Lance Armstrong Foundation is hosting the LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum. You can find details on the Forum at the website I have linked, but in a nutshell, they will be webcast at 10 a.m. central time, I think on msnbc.com. One day will be dedictated to the Republican candidates and the other to the Democratic candidates.
Like many people, I think that finding ways to get treatment to cancer patients and continuing the search for better therapies should be national priorities. As a cancer researcher and a patient myself, these issues hit too close to home. I submitted a video question to the Presidential Forum, and although my submission wasn't selected [sic], I decided (after much thought and little sleep) to post it here to get the point across that something can and needs to be done to address this problem.

Whoa! This is the first I hear of this! When I made my submission, MSNBC had said they would notify me if they used my material; since I never heard, I thought they had blown me off. I was stuck in lab meeting during the webcast, so I'm trying to fish it out: everyone in my lab is curious to see what the candidates had to say... in the meantime, I will merge the original thread where I posted a link to the video question and place it below.
