Well, it's time to face the music as my I/O is tomorrow. I'm still pretty scared but I can't tell how much I value the wealth of information that I have gathered from all you fine people.....nothing better than to get info right from the source. You are all well intended and have provided incredible insight into this chapter of my life. Information is an empowering tool and for that, I thank you all. As a man of faith, I cling to it to get me through all this but your thoughts and comments have truly been an inspiration to me. I will report on the outcome as soon as I am able to. Thanks again.

Charlie,
My husband's I/O was his first hospital experience too...no broken bones, no stitches, nothing. He was very nervous as well. When he got out of the OR I went to see him in recovery and he had a huge smile and gave me the thumbs up. He was astounded at how quick and easy the whole process was.
You'll be fine, and we'll be thinking about you ! Post when you're back home and let us know how it went!Retired moderator. Husband, left I/O 16Dec2005, stage I seminoma with elevated b-HCG, no LVI, RTx15 (25Gy). All clear ever since.

I Made It!
HI FOLKS! Well, I/O is history now and it went just as most of you had described. Wheeled into the OR at 8am on Tuesday and was on my way home at 3:30pm. Procedure went well and everything seems to be going along expectations (constipation, scrotum swelling, normal pain etc...). I finally opted for general anesthesia and I'm glad I did. I did have pain in my neck and throat from intubation the day after but all gone now. I've only used the pain med twice and I doubt I'll need them again after today. Follow up with Dr. is on Monday - he said everything points out to seminoma but will know more when pathology returns. The care I received from the medical/nursing staff was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. I can't thank them enough! Now I am resting comfortably (I was unable to post sooner because my wife has limited my time online just in case I get itching to "work" - as I'm typing this I'm being monitored like the Gestapo - but I know she does it for my own well-being).
Anyway, thanks again for all your comments and you now have a TC colleague in South Florida for the long term. I will post again after my follow up visit and will post my diagnosis when this thing is given its proper name. Best wishes to all!

Glad it went well. Good that your Gestapo wife is looking after you - you need to take it easy and avoid the temptation to do too much too soon.
My wife was not so protecitve - and I had an embarassing incident where I pretty much passed out at my son's baseball game 4 days post I/O. Everyone saw me go down, and folks ran to my aid, and the whole crowd got to listen to a "doctor dad" scold me for being so stupid - I couldn't sit in the stands because it bothered my incision, so I decided to stand - for a 2-1/hour game - not a good idea 4 days after major surgery.
So, be good to yourself, follow your doctor's instructions, listen to your wife, and heal up quickly. Hope your pathology report is favorable.Right I/O 4/17/06, Seminoma Stage Ib
RT (15 days) completed 6/1/06
All clear as of 5/8/09
