  • My Dad

I need to share the news that my father passed away this morning. He was 77 and in declining health after a 40+-year struggle with diabetes and a more recent neurological disease with symptoms similar to ALS. My family visited him on the day he was admitted to the hospital in Augusta, Maine, two Fridays ago with trouble breathing, irregular heartbeat, and confusion. Two days later he was moved to intensive care and has been sedated and on life support until this morning. Although I'll never know whether he knew I was there, I drove up again last Thursday. My mother and I decided I should still head to Austin for the Ride for the Roses Weekend.

I received the call from my sister while waiting in the airport for my flight home, letting me know that Dad passed away quickly and peacefully this morning, without regaining consciousness, in the presence of family.

    Rest in peace, Dad.

Scott, my heartfelt sympathy is with you and your family. You know, the phrase "he is in a better place now" is not just a cliche.. is the absolute truth. He will be in my very special prayers tonight as well as you, your siblings and specially your Mom - God bless you all and may he rest in peace!

Scott, I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. The loss of a dad is very painful. I lost my dad 10 years ago who also struggled with diabetes. They say time heals, I don't know if I believe that, but hopefully it will for you.
