About to lose the second one - do I get one prosthetic, or two?

Hi all,

After six years in remission, my oncology team thinks that I have a stage 1 cancer in the right testicle. I'm probably going in for surgery this Thursday - I need to confirm tomorrow whether I want one or two prosthetics. My surgeon suggests one, but is willing to do both if that's my preference.

On the one hand, I've gotten used to having one testicle since 2012. But this might be my only chance to get this surgery covered by my insurance, and I'm not sure I'm sold on having only the one implant.

I'll be asking my surgeon's office for more details on the prostheses and the process on the phone tomorrow, but I would love any and all insight folks here might have. Are you happy with two prosthetics? Are you happy with one? Did you elect for one or two and end up regretting it?

I'm also happy to hear from anyone who recommends "no prosthetics", but I don't think I'm going to go for that. I'm still in the "looking for casual sex" phase of my life and I don't think I'm confident enough to pull off the empty sack in that scenario.

Well, I lost righty at age 20 & didn't get one (not sure they were even available in the mid 70's). When I knew I was gonna lose the other one 35 years later, I considered getting one fake one. No way would I have wanted to deal with two after all those years with just one. Would have felt way too strange. Ultimately I ended up with none, & it's no big deal. You get used to whatever is down there. Absolutely no one I had sex with ever commented on just one, so I don't know if they noticed or not. but it didn't get in the way of the fun.While I suspect having none may be more noticeable, by the time you get to that point, no one is turning back & if everything goes as expected, no one is gonna care how many are in there anyway. In the end, you really don't want to be with any woman who cares what's in your sack anyway, do you? For the record, I was married 20 years when #2 happened so I really don't know how a new lover might respond, but I suspect it would not be a problem.

Sorry to be tardy to the party. I just had my 2nd I/O in October and opted to get the two prosthetics. They feel ok so far, I had some soreness and discomfort at first but after everything healed up I've been ok for the past 1.5 months or so.

Regarding the casual sex thing, they will feel different, more firm, than your natural fellas, so it may come up with anyone that you hook up with.

Based on my experience with just one, it won't be mentioned, even if noticed. Most likely they'll just think that's how you are. There is enough variation from person to person that extra firm is unlikely to be more than an observation that is not mentioned. How would she even bring that up? "[email protected], those are the hardest balls I've ever felt " hardly seems like something she'd say the first time in bed, does it?

It's possible a partner may or may not notice or say anything. You could be right where it may not come up at all, but if someone is experienced it's possible.

I'd like to hear from OP to see how he turned out.

I still have one left, but it's never been a bother for my wife. But there is no right and wrong... The main thing is to do whatever makes you feel more comfortable - if the prosthetic is going to do it for you, go for it!

Francisco, I’m a little late responding but for anyone else who sees this, insurance in the USA will have to pay for both implants even if you only had one testical because you removed the other at an earlier time.

And no woman ever thinks, “nice balls” so it is a personal choice. I think eventually the implants might need to be replaced similarly to breast implants.

There are pictures you can find online to see what you want or feel comfortable with.

I had one put in 2013 and second 5 weeks ago. Wouldn’t want it any other way myself. Most girls never could tell with 1 and 2 isn’t much different.

I commented on here. once you have yours removed for a few years, is there a way to make the implant go down? is it not going down because the doctor did a bad job surgery wise? I dont know if I honestly recommend getting them both implanted if you've gone years without the testicle, that area may close. Does anyone have experience with this?!
