Husband diagnosed Oct 2008 Pure choriocarcinoma., HCG 425000, 4xBEP, Left orchiectomy, marker did not normalize, 1xICE, Found 3 Tumours in Brain and more in Lungs and spinal area, radiation on brain and back, 2xTIP, 2 rounds HDC with Stemcell transplant, markers still did not normalize, lost the love of my life, my best friend and soul mate on September 23, 2009.

Embryonal Carcinoma; Seminoma. Marker negative.
August 2001: Right I/O .
August - December 2001: Surveillance .
December 2001: Relapse - Stage III. Mets in lymph nodes and lung.
December 2001 - March 2002: 3xBEP .
Complications: Neutropaenic sepsis during cycles 1 & 3. I/V antibiotics and isolation.
March 2012 - Ten years since finishing chemo.

Thinking of Patrik and happy that he was able to celebrate his 18th birthday.
I will especially keep him in my prayers during these rounds of chemo.

Happy New Year to you all
Patrik and I have spent 2011 in the RCH in Melbourne finishing his last chemotherapy treatment. After today we can go home and only return for tests, once every 2 months.
We had a bit of a scare last week when the professor thought the Rhabdo had returned however it seemed to be a wayward muscle. Patrik has endured enough treatment with side effects knocking him around. He can't walk properly, his hands are weak and his fingers can't straighten however with time this should come back to normal.
I hope everyone is well and like us looking forward to a cancer free 2011.

Few souls deserve a break and a cancer-free life more than Patrik. Despite the side effects, going home after treatment is indeed good news for the New Year. Gday Everyone
Well its over. He has finished his treatment and is now looking forward to starting Uni in a few weeks. We had a major issue however when he went to the toilet and passed heaps of blood. It wouldnt stop and we had to call an ambulance to take him straight to hospital. The local hospital couldnt help him so he was transported back to the RCH in Melbourne and was cared for there. It was touch and go for a while as the amount of blood pumped in was less than he was passing but eventually they found out the reason and got it under control.
Due to his appetite not being there they gave him medication to increase it however this medication ate away at his stomach lining and due to low platelettes he started to bleed out.
After day 3 they realised what was wrong and he slowly stopped bleeding. What a nightmare. At one stage they were saying they would have to transport him to another hospitals ICU if they couldnt cope, they were very concerned which in turn had us concerned.
He is now much better and slowly gaining his strength which he will need for Uni. Lets hope they have now killed the beast and Patrik can start to lead a normal life without the worry that he has endured over the last 8 months. This time round we knew what to expect however this Chemo regime really knocked him around, more so than last time.
He is alive, thats all that matters to me!

Sometimes evil leaves our presence in mysterious ways. Let's hope this bleeding incident was a way for the beast to say adios - for good. Now it's recovery time for Mr. College. The one positive of all this is that the experience surely has strengthen Patrik's determination and zeal to succeed and I have no doubt he will use all his life experiences and abilities to thrive at the University and elsewhere in his life.

Sounds like Patrik had one last little speedbump to get over to conclude his epic journey. I'm relieved that it was brought under control and that he is doing better now.
I saw this quote posted on a friend's caringbridge site, and thought it was also quite fitting for Patrik:

Gday everyone
Its official, Patrik is in remission a second time, ALL CLEAR!! What a relief. Now to look forward to the next scan in April.
Everytime Patrik has struggled over the last 8 months the words of Winston Churchill have run through my mind
"We shall draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration and survival."
He has certainly inspired me to be the best I can be. The main thing todate with this treatment means that hopefully other children suffering from this disease can take comfort knowing that there is treatment that can help.
