  • Second opinion is in! conflicting results!

First of all sorry I have not been around for a while, I needed a break from think about cancer all the time.

Well we finally received the results of the second opinion at the cancer specialist. They disagree with the first pathologist. They said that it is Stage 1 seminoma NOT Non seminoma. So they are ordering tissue samples from the first one and will have them redone I guess. So we are thinking a third opinion.

The guys on the forum here will give you good advice. my instinct would be to go for the third opinion if you can. when we had the second opinion the oncologist said if its different from the first then the third can be the "tie breaker" our second one matched but if it didnt I would have gone for the third. Make sure you use a center that sees more TC, like sloan or Indiana. we used the armed forces pathology labs in DC(AFIP) as they see alot of it from all over the world. you dont have to be military to use it but the report has to be ordered by the last pathologist who supervised the second report. It does take a little longer from them. They have a website with info. good luck.

Rose, In order for anyone here to give you any input on the situation, I suggest you post the pathology report, markers or whatever else you have on hand. That way, the more experienced members here can get a better handle on what could be the best course of action depending on their own knowledge and experience........

It important to get the pathologly right because the treatments for non-seminoma and seminoma are different. Having one of the centers of excellance be the tie breaker is a very good idea.

To add to this, I would like to suggest the Pathology Department at Sloan. They are top notch and very reliable.

                Rose,
Yup, another read from Sloan's path dept and if you could post the other 2 path reports and any markers that would help us understand and perhaps help. Hang in there, we're here for you.
