but what I wanted to know is..does the size of his tumour make a difference in terms of how potentially advanced the cancer may be, or what stage it is?
my hubby's is 2x1.5cm.

Yes in this case size does matter. But the pathology report will give you the exact information needed to beat this thing.

Hi,

I'd assume the smaller tumour would mean its been found earlier, and had a smaller time window to spread beyond the initial site. I dont know of any studies that support that though!

As Dadmo says, the path report will contain everything you need to know - for example a small tumour with vasular in vasion would probably be higher risk than a large one without.

the agressiveness of the tumor type is more critical than the size, as is the loctaion of the tumor and if it invaded the spermatic cord and if lymphovascular invasion is noted. The FINAL pathology report is what the next steps hinge upon.

I need all the help I can get.
unfortunately, mu ex is not giving me much info since he thinks I feel sorry for him and just won't have it. he doesn't even want me there on operation day.
this makes it all the more frustrating...

I can imagine you feel at a loss for what to do to help him. Just know that the operation is not terribly complex, shouldn't last much more than an hour. He'll be fine with the surgery and recovery. In our case it took 1 week to get the prelimiary pathology and another week for the final while they verified there was no lymphovascular invasion. For me, waiting for the report was the most agonizing part because you are hoping for good news but convinced it will be the worst. Be assured that even in late stage this is a very curable cancer. The most curable of all. He will be fine and maybe just needs time and space to let this all sink in. When you look at the "signatures" of so many of the guys here, notice how many obsticles they have faced and how they've come through it with such strength and positive outlooks.
