I spoke to my urologist and I have come to the conclusion most of us have had that particular nerve cut... or not.
He said if the nerve isnt cut it causes pain when the skin in the side of the scrotum and inner upper(where it joins the pelvis) brush together, wich would drive a person nuts, he desribed the pain wich was simular to what I had during the 1st 3 weeks, and by everyone here saying they have numbness for a year later, it would be a cut nerve, my urologist told me over the year the nerves from the leg grows around to compensate, I remember reading somewhere it can take upto 3 years.
My mum had an operation once and she had numbness for a while and she spoke to my cousin who was a doctor and he told her they must of cut and nerve, and 6 months later her numbness went away.
So has any1 here specificly had numbess where the leg meets the groin or at the top of the scrotum or skin at the base of the penis on the side of inscision?
Also I have what I thought was the vas deferens, it is on the side(of inscision) of the base of the penis below the pubic bone, it has a tethered end so I am suspecting a cut nerve but the end doesnt feel weird like a neuroma should be. My urologist says it is scar tissue, but it is like a thick long vessel I thought it was the vas deferens because because it is like 3-4mm in thickness, and it is defenetly comming out of the inguinal canal.

Hey man, arnt we in the same boat. I got my dressing taken off and the scar healed nicely, cant even notice it in the mirror. the side that leaked had a circle about 1/2 cm in diameter that still hadnt healed at the time but its been almost a week since getting it taken off and it should be healed in acouple days.
The swelling in my leg is still there but I have gotton some feeling back and the pain in that area is like 98% recovered, although there is a new nerve playing up and its running straight down Sir Lance alot. But Im not worried so much about it cause it should sort itself out like the rest.

Hi Michael122,
I just had my I/O last Tuesday, and feel exactly the numbness you describe. I also have a lot of swelling, and some leakage from the low end of the scar (mine is fairly horizontal too.) Anyway, it feels 'normal' to me, because I've had bad cuts before, and if they are deep enough, they're numb. Lots of nerves get cut, I imagine. I wouldn't worry too much, because you will get less numb over time. Nerves do reattach themselves (the ends find each other!), but it takes time... like 1 cm per year, or something. If you still feel the same way in a month, then maybe you might want to start consulting with docs about it.
Good Luck!

The doctor just called me, he got the blood test results and I spoke to him about the pain, he said that he routinly cuts a nerve, I asked if it was a main nerve or a feeler nerve and he said it was a feeler nerve and that its normal for me to get some swelling and it should go away in afew weeks, so its looking good, funnily enough my testosterone level is actually higher then when I got it tested before my I/O except my FSH is high and out of range.

I havent been using ice at all, they never told me to use ice.
What angle was ur scar at?
The scar itself has barely any pain, infact just above the scar sensation is returning abit, but its below the scar where my leg meets my groin about 3 inches below the scar is where the most numbness is, Im guessing I could feel a pin prick, but if I pull the hair in that small area I cant feel it at all.Last edited by Michael112; 10-09-06, 04:02 AM.

You are only a month out from surgery the scar might just be raw or you might have an infection If the proplem continues I would have it checked out. Pain in the scar area I believe is normal you will have scar tissue that is breaking up during the healing process and that will cause some discomfort.
As for the angle I wouldn't be too worried about it now the nerve getting cut if it wasn't repaired I doubt will every come back if it was just injuried then over time it could get better. Remember if you are having pain or swelling keep the ice on it even a month out ice can still help.

What angle is the scar you guys have? I looked up on the surgical procidure, and it looks like its ment to be at like a 40-120 degree angle, mine is at a 10 degree angle(horizontal!).

Was there any burning? and weird like how?
How numb was it weeks after surgery?
Edit:
I got to be really carefull now when I stand up, sit down and walk incase I get pain, it seems to be getting worse, just before when I stood up I felt a sharp tearing like pain in the area where I am getting the burning sensation, and I can tell its nerve pain.
Ok I just figured out the best way to describe the pain, if you have ever scolded yourself with boiling water, the feeling u get like minutes to an hour after it happened when you touch the skin, thats what it feels like.Last edited by Michael112; 10-06-06, 06:40 AM.

i still have numbness and its been a little over year for one and 19 months on the other. they (i have two inscisions, one of which was cut twice, so possibly that's why mine has taken a little longer!) are getting better and i sometimes have frequent discomforts in the area. i was told that nerves were cut too but they would also regenerate. i trust my urologist with my life and i don't think he did anything not necesssary!

Yes, that's completely normal. It can take several months for the numbness to go away.

Is it normal to have numbness of the skin, around where the incision was made?Last edited by Michael112; 10-04-06, 09:38 PM.

Michael:
No nerves should have been cut but maybe he had to manipulate one and it's simply in shock. If that's the case it will recover with time but if it was cut I don't think it will regrow.

Yea I just did some research, no nerves should of been cut, I am going to call him up and confront him about it, he said the nerves will grow back after 1 year, yea bull****.
The thing is if the particular nerve was cut shouldnt I be completely screwed? but the area of numbness is just the skin around the swelling wich is like 1 10th the area of my scrotum, and rest of the numbness is on the skin in the upper leg in that area, sorta like the feeling of local anesthetic, whats bothering me is the area in the leg is getting sore now just along the skin, it feels like chafing.Last edited by Michael112; 10-04-06, 09:25 PM.
