  • Chemo 2nd time

    Hi Everyone

Hope you are all doing well and looking forward to Christmas... I was wondering if anyonek new after 4 xBEP if the tumour has not completely gone and they talk about maybe more chemo, does anyone know which drugs they use for thys...Im sure i read somewhere you can only get 4 cycles of BEP....My hubby has got some residue leftover, biggest being 6cm in hys abdomen beside hys kidney and also in hys chest cavity and in hys pelvis...George has been on Anoxaparin injections for weeks now and on Friday just there our own GP called to say he could come off them now, which i thynk is positive because the reason he was on them was that the bulky tumour was leaning on the main artery that takes the blood to the legs so im thynking that because the tumour has shrank so much its not causing the same danger...Also our own GP mention that hys tumour markers are back to normal, so am i right to assume that the cancer is dead?... we go back to Hospital on Frieday 15th to find out wot the next step is.... Thanx for any info its greatly appreciated.... yvonne

If the tumors are shrinking and his markers are normal it reasonable to assume that the cancer cells are dead. Have the doctors discussed doing an RPLND to remove the matter that was left behind. It doesn't seem that chemo would be called for in his situation.
Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04. Full open RPLND 10/13/04. All Clear since.

Treated by Dr. Rakowski of Midland Park, NJ. Visited Sloan Kettering for protocol advice. RPLND done at Sloan Kettering.

When my son finished the 4xBEP Dr. Motzer told us if the cancer wasn't dead there would be two more rounds of chemo. I believe it was the Ep without the Bleo. If that didn't work then there was salvage cehmo.

All this would take place after the RPLND and the surgery to remove the tumors from his lungs because that would determine if the cancer was dead.

His marker levels took a long time to come down but after all the operations the cancer was dead, no more chemo! It sounds like everything is going in the right direction for you.

Good luck with the doctor visit.
