Well we have had mixed results. Motzer was optimistic but the tumor markers rose a little. It may be the difference between Sloan and the lab in Jersey. It wasn't much but still it was a little disappointing.

We have an appointment with Dr. Scheinfeld this coming Thursday and he will determine if we operate or not. He needs two procedures, one for the lungs one for the stomach.

Alex had back pain for the first time in a long time yesterday. The tumor, which is wrapped around the kidney, has shrunk from 11cm to 7cm. We hope maybe the thing was shrinking some more.

We are still in a holding pattern. For the first time ever I think Alex is getting a little depressed. He just wants is to end.

We'll get there. Thanks for asking.

    Domenic

    chemo is done

    Domenic,

Just wanted to write to say congrads on your son finishing chemo. I just wanted to let you know that my husband was diagnosed with TC in the end of October and like your son in a matter of hours his testicle was removed, and a CT scan was done that revealed a large tumor in the liver, multiple lung tumors, and two small tumors in the brain. He went through 5 cycles of chemo (1 EP, 2 VIP, and 2 BEP) and he finished chemo on Feb. 8th. At that time the tumor markers were HCG 66, and AFP 32. Down from HCG of 512,000 and AFP of 636 when he was originally diagnosed. His tumor markers last week were HCG 17 and AFP 22. His CT scans have also cleared (brain tumors are gone, lung tumors smaller, and liver tumor is shrinking). We have consulted Dr. Einhorn and at this point he is getting tumor markers weekly. Dr. Einhorn says they will either normalize or go up again. If they go up more chemo is needed and a tandem transplant. If they normalize and stay down he is finished. . Just wanted to let you know that your family is not the only family going through this and playing the waiting game. Also, your son has made a ton of progress. The doctors say my husband has responded amazingly to chemo and it sounds like your son has too since their stories seem so similar. Congrads on finshing chemo. I will be praying for your son and family during this time. I know how hard this is and I just wanted to give you a little encouragement from someone who is in close to the same place.

Contuinue with the positive attitude. I know for my family and for yours this will just be a "bump" in the road one day!

One more thing, if RPLND is needed Domenic, to us believe it or not...it was nothing compared to chemo..even in Chris' opinion..I mean it is a major operation...but still Sloan was wonderful to Chris...the best feeling in the world was meeting Dr. Sheinfeld in the waiting room and walking up to him in almost slow motion so scared to hear news...and him saying it went well did the nerve sparring and looks like no more cancer...in Chris case it was residual teratoma....hang in there..Mary Ellen

Chemo is done!!!!!!! Alex did well, just ending with a little sore throat.

The nurses sang to him today and gave him a diploma as well as a T-Shirt and a button that says Cancer Sucks! (so true)

Now the waiting game, we see Motzer on the 21st and hope we can proceed with the operation.

Thanks to everyone here we made it through this phase sane. On to the next level.

    Domenic

I know the feeling. When Jason was in active treatment I couldn't bear to be away from him. My time at the gym went to almost zero and the yard had to fend for itself. Cancer has certainly changed my view of what's important. If anything I have found purpose in my days.
