  • Getting sick a lot

Hi everybody, I was wondering if some of you were experiencing this too? A few weeks after my last round of chemo, my blood counts returned to almost normal. Within the last 2 months I've been sick about 4 times. I don't remember ever getting sick that much in such a short ammount of time. I know this year is a very bad cold/flu season, but I'm wondering if because my immune system took such a big hit last year my body isn't able to block this bugs a little better like it used to.

As the saying goes, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. I seem to be a magnet for anything floating around.

It stinks that you have been sick so often. The chemo really kicks the heck out of your immune system so it's not that surprising. Just be extra careful around anyone who is really sick. Next winter will be easier for you.

I have read and been told by doctors that even though your blood counts return back to normal it can take your body up to 18 months to fully recover from Chemo--obviously this is not the case with everyone but is possible!!!!!

        Sick

L: We have had the same problem, chemo was finished in July and since Wesley had his Flu shot in October he has had two sniffly colds and one allergic reaction to something??? All his blood counts were normal except when he did his labs when this reaction started. He has hunted all of his life but believes he may have possibly gotten into poison ivy in the woods but can't remember being directly in it. He's never had to get steroids for something like this but did this year. He's also had to get antibotics for one of the colds. I don't think his lungs are completely healed from the Bleo either so I hope maybe next winter will be back to normal. April

My son, Josh finished chemo last May but since the flu season has started he has been sick 3 times. Stomach flu, and 2 bouts with strep. Come to think of Josh's sister has also been sick about 3 times, so maybe this is just an extra bad flu season???? Hope you stay healthy.
