  • hair loss to shave or not to shave?

    hi all,

just after some advice, regarding stefans treatment all going well at mo thankfully!
his hair has started to fall out and being seventeen he is obviously worried about his appearance, will his hair grow back better if he shaves it off now or should he just wait and let it fall out.
pretty trivial concern but thats teenagers for you.
    thanks
    derek

    Hi,

I shaved off mine before it all started to come out, and its grown back fine. I'd say cut if off, for no other reason than it will make it much easier to clean up when it all does come out. I lost most of mine in the shower over a couple of mornings. Probably would have blocked the drain if I hadnt cut it short

I dont think anyone looks forward to losing the hair, but its not that bad - I actually ended up liking the way it looked, so Ive taken it all off again a few times since the treatment finished.

    Cheers,

    Steve

It's really a personal preference....like nzsteve,I chose to first cut mine VERY short, and then taking a razor to remove the rest. It's now 2 months post chemo, and for those familiar with British cartoons,I look like Oour Wullie !

If you shave it off you will avoid that patchy look.

Great to know that everything is going well. My son's first nightmare was TC, his second nightmare was seeing himself bald, and guess what, he kinda liked it! He did not like to see it on the pillow. He shaved it off and left the hair in the sink for his fiancee to clean up! Yuk! Dianne

I had almost the exact same experience! Expect in my case, by the end of it my eyebrows were starting to go. You'd be surprised how different you can look after losing about 20 pounds, all of the hair on your head, and most of your eyebrows!
