  • hair regrowth

hi, haven't posted in a while but i have a bit of an issue and wondering if anyone can help me out. To give some background im 22 and had bilateral tc, one removed 12 months ago, the last one removed 4 months ago. I finished 4 cycles of bep on oct 15th 2005. A few months ago my hair had started to grow back normally, a bit thin of course but it was coming back. Then I noticed my facial hair after regrowing had started to fall out again. There is still quite a few bald areas. I also noticed a few other bald areas on my thighs as well and the bald patches seem to be spreading, but a bit hard to tell. On my head there are definately some thinner areas compared to others. If it makes any difference I am on 10mg androgel. Anyone have any comments/explanations it would be appriciated.

My son got his beard back first and it was pretty sparse. Then it came back fully and got sparse again enough for him to comment on it. The last time I saw him he hadn't shaved and his beard was thick again. When my husband switched to Androgel, the first thing he noticed was that he was getting a lot of body hair. Having been on TRT for 26 years, his beard was pretty thick but the hair on his legs and chest pretty sparse. He is on 5 mg. of Androgel. I do not know if a greater dosage would have different results. You should mention it to your doctor but I think you need to give it more time. Dianne

      steve k,
It's funny that you happen to write about this issue today bcause my son is also having issues with his hair growth. He is a year post chemo and his hair is still thin with a few balding areas located on the top back portion of his head. We have mentioned our concerns to his doctor but he doesn't seem too concerned with it. My son is only 21 and before chemo his hair was thick and corse. He is not on any medication for this problem. I think he's been patient but he's anxious for his hair to look like a 21 not 51 year old. He's been told that it will come back it just takes time. Well, my question is how long should he have to wait? Should I contact a dermatologist???

        jdunn,
well im not an expert by any means but i'll tell you my situation. Its been about 8 months since chemo and the hair on my head has grown back enough so it looks normal, however I do know that it is not as thick as it used to be.Just have to wait a bit longer as well I guess, I used to have very thick hair as well. You can do a search on this forum and im sure there could be some other related posts. If you want to you could contact a dermatolagist, it couldn't hurt, they could probably give you a better answer.

I'm 9 months post chemo (see signature) and the hair on my head is twice as thick as it was pre-chemo. When I say thick, I mean, you could turn me upside down and use me to scrub the floor. Also, at first my facial hair came back thicker and the 5 o'clock shadow came at about noon. However, I have noticed the beard growth has slowed and there are bald spots (only on the face).

What really brought your post to my attention is the bald spots on the thigh. I've been wondering about that for about a month. I have them on the inner thigh below the jewels, I mean jewel and above the knee. I am taking Coumidin (for the Pulmonary Embolism) and I have heard that a side-effect can be hair loss.

Also, my hair is grayer and the hairline is higher. Oh, um, after looking at a pre-chemo picture, I guess those were not side effects from chemo, but side effects from old age.

BeachTech, That is where the bald spots are for me as well..around the jewels...lol..well where they used to be for me (bilateral), my hairline is also a bit higher but im guessing the hair there is 'weaker' than the other hair so it may take longer to grow back. Well its not too much of a concern, guess i'll just wait a bit longer
