HI Everyone. While talking about cancer, let's face this: I learnt something about cancer drugs, which is on the following site:

...saying that some cancer drugs can prevent the growth of the normal cells of the body. I dont know how far this is correct, but this is really gross if it applies for all drugs! Check the link above, and you will see what it says about VEPESID.

This is one of the most commonly used drugs in the fight against testicular cancer. It has saved the lives of many people on this forum. Chemo is as close to a miracle cure for testicular cancer as you can get. The side effects can be harsh but receiving no treatment is deadly.
Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04. Full open RPLND 10/13/04. All Clear since.

Treated by Dr. Rakowski of Midland Park, NJ. Visited Sloan Kettering for protocol advice. RPLND done at Sloan Kettering.

I'll second that Dadmo. 2 yrs since diagnoses and this past May
I finished my first half Ironman Triathlon. Cancer and Chemo actually
saved my life by trying to take it.

        luvsik,

All chemo drugs work by preventing the growth of cells in the body - the trick is that because cancer cells grow much more quickly than normal ones, cancer cells are much more susceptible to the drugs. The side effects are caused by the drugs working on the healthy cells. But none of this should detract from the fact that they have been shown to work. Healthy cells repair themselves, and the cancerous ones die off.

SO fingers crossed for my chemo starting 2 weeks today!

Dadmo is spot on, without chemo Patrik would be dead. the side effects are substantial however the good far outweighs the bad!

chemo is basically a major poison in your body. It stops all cell growth or created very limited cell growth. Big clues are when you hemoglobin, whit eblood count and red blood count numbers go down. The chemo has stifled the growth of cells that create these.

It's poison and it works most of the time. There are still the few that don't make it.
