        My RPLND is August 7th

Hi Billy, the post surgery pictures look very good. This is my first visit to this forum. I must admit I am still having difficulty owning up to the fact that I must have this invasive surgery. I am kinda a senior citizen for this problem. I am 46, had a left Orchiectomy on 2-28-06 followed by 4 cycles BEP. Pet Scan confirmed 2 tumors are still there and have actually grown some. RPLND time now, and at this point I just want the tumors out of there!

The problem is the one in the left groin area is apparently grown to the point (4 cm) where it is pressing on a nerve bundle going to my left leg. This is causing excruciating pain in the left hip and making it very difficult to walk. They prescribed some Prednizone, a steroid that apparently temporarily shrinks the tumors, and it seems to be effective. It lasts about 10 days then the pain is back. Hopefully this dose will last me until surgery in 10 days. I sure hope the pain is gone after the surgery or there is something else going on, gulp. Has anyone else had a similar condition? Seems odd. I appreciate any feedback.
        Kevin Ricks (46 years old)
Diagnosed 2-2006, AFP = 3800, BHCG = 1226. Left I/O 3-2006, Stage 2 Nonseminomous (50% embryonal carcinoma, 30% teratoma), 4XBEP, two tumors in lymph nodes, (12cm x 5cm left periaortic region and 5cm x 5cm left pelvic region) RPLND 8-2006, Pathology is negative, tumor markers negative, surveilance beginning 9-2006.

It's not uncommon at all to have leg pain. If you search these forums you will finds several members who had leg pain that went away when the RPLND was done.

Welcome to the forums, and best wishes for the surgery. We know you'll make it through just fine. Stick around!

Wow! and only a week after surgery? that looks great! Why don't they all do internal stitches & glue? (Justin's was horizontal across bottom rib-took out a section of rib and then verticle so I doubt they could have done it that way) Lanette ><>
