  • prosthetic testicle questions

hello, Im 22, I have finished treatment about 7 months ago, had both testicles removed. I had two different doctors insert the prosthetics at different times. At first they seemed great, both hung at the same height and were the same size. Now i've noticed the first one hangs considerably lower than the other and looks quite strange..well at least I think it does. I've never actually ever had 'normal' testicles, my real ones were considerably undersized (about the size of a grape) so im not sure if that is how they are suppose to be. Secondly, has anyone ever had their prosthetic adjusted? Do they have to make another incision in the groin and put you under etc... or can they just do a simple procedure where they cut through the scrotum?

    Steve -

First of all, it is very normal for natural testicales to hang at different lengths... So don't be freaked out.

Prosthetics can be adjusted by making an incision through the scrotum. But this is a procedure that you will need to be put to sleep. An incision about 1" will be made. Recovery is quite quick - I was back in the gym working out two weeks later. The worst part of it all is not being able to shower for 7-10 days.

By-the-way, MENTOR - the leading manufacturer of testicular implants claims that 1 in 3 implant patients usually require an adjustment within the first year.
You should check out their website - they have some good info there: http://www.mentorcorp.com/index-us.htm.

Hope this helps... And seriously, don't be hung up on them hanging at different lengths. It's totally normal for ANY guy.

    Peace out dude.

I have two fakies also. The same doc did both of mine and they still don't hang the same length. My real ones never hung at the same level either.

        Hello From the UK!

Hello Steve! I had testicular cancer 4 years ago (when I was 27 - I'm now 31) and I had both removed as well. I had the same problem; I had to have an adjustmentment about 11 months after I had the prosthetics put in. But there was a good thing, and I don't know if this is true in the USA.... But I was not happy with the size of the prosthetics, so when I had the adjustment done, I asked my GP to replace them with a larger pair. I had to pay for it, but now I have these huge nuts - super! Best of luck,

        Stephen

What do you mean by this - adjustment?

Size wise I didn't care for the Mentors. There is a company called AART in Nevada that makes a solid one that is NOT a superball. Its just about perfect for firmness and if you want an adult size they have it. You can even get some that are Extra Large if you like. For me it made the surgery go from a "Castration" to an Augmentation. Oh, and human ones don't hand at the same level either so don't worry about it.

I had a testicle removed years ago, but the surgeon did not insert any prosthetic replacement. Are prosthetics generally inserted during surgery? If so, is there a reason a surgeon might not do so?

                Hi Team

I am a fan of these, got the set last year, sonds like one of the guys may have become unsecured or loose, you should get this checked out by the uro. They are generally secured in the scrotum. One of the team did have an 'adjustment' last year, as I recall this was through the scrotum however the docs usually avoid the scrotum if they can.

For guys who have not been offered these you should follow up and see whats available, some docs seems to avoid placing them in with the IO.

                Cheers

I have one prosthesis, and it hangs a bit higher than its more authentic brother, but pre op, they used to hang at differen heights anyway, all be it the one that has been replaces used to be the lower one. The role reversal was weird at first, but ive got used to it now, and as everyone else is saying i think pretty much everyone has nuts that hang at different heights. The only time mine can look a bit weird is on a hot day... because the prosthesis isnt variable lol.

                      Urgency?

                      hi all

I had one removed in November 08 (cancer) but was advised not to get the implant during the op as it would slow the healing process and delay further treatment.

i now have the option of going for it...but i'm struggling to decide. i'm only 22 and dont feel great having just one, but really dont see myself as a playboy and dont think anyone interested in a long term relationship could possibly care. going by the possible complications and the fact that they dont seem realistic or comfortable anyway, i probably wont go for it now.

however; can i change my mind several years down the line? would the scrotum 'tighten up' and make it more difficult to get an implant later? if i can put off the decision for a while, i probably will.

thanks - and good luck to the rest of you in a similar position
                      d

My right prosthesis was installed twelve years after I had lost that testicle so, at least to judge from my experience, it certainly can be done. While it was that prosthesis that gave me some trouble, requiring subsequent resurgery, it is not inconceivable that you can wait to act on this.

                          Hey d

Its personal choice but at your age I would be heading in the direction of a prosthises, could make you more comfortable with a new partner. There was a 7 year gap for me.

                          Cheers

can a prosthetic testicle be made smaller, like with a needle and remove some of the saline?

                              I don't think that's possible.

Unlike breast implants, they don't even feature a serviceable valve I don't think. They are delivered to your hospital in the intended size.

Besides, if you removed some saline, wouldn't your prosthesis become baggy like a fake breast?
100% classical seminoma (I-A, RTI). Surveillance (no adjuvant therapy). 4 years all-clear and hoping for many more.
