  • Good news

Hi all. I wanted to share some good news that we got over the weekend. My fiance was diagnosed with advanced stage III non-seminoma on October 19. Initial HCG was over 100,000 (no one has ever mentioned AFP, but I have asked and the dr is getting the # for me) and he had tumors in the lungs, stomach, liver, possibly kidney and brain lesions. He had a brain MRI Friday and the lesions in the brain seem to have died and there are no new ones. They discontinued radiation immediately. Saturday they did chest and abdomen CT scans. According to the oncologist today, the tumors in the chest are shrinking and although there is still at least one on the liver and some in the retroperitoneal area, they seem to be giving up. And probably the best news.........his HCG is down to only 1,672. He just began his 2nd round of BEP on Friday. Finally, his doctor looked upbeat and encouraged!

So far, the only major problem he's having is on his port a cath side, with some arm swelling, so they have had to do chemo through his regular veins on the arm that isn't swollen. I know that's not good, but we're doing what they tell us. He has had no nausea/vomiting, in fact, he's eating constantly! I'm sure we'll face that, but thankfully so far we haven't. He was a very thin guy before all of this and had lost 10 pounds at diagnosis, so losing more weight would not help right now.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this news and thank you all again for posting your stories and questions. It's been very helpful to read everything you all have written. I've gotten a lot of hope from what I've read here!

That is amazing. I am beyond thrilled for you guys. My husband declined a port and did all this chemo in his veins in his arms, allot of them are still damaged but they seem to have improved.
