  • What is the likelyhood of me conceiving naturally?

    Hi everyone,

Wow it's been ages since I last posted, hope all is well!

I was wondering if anyone could share with me whether or not they were able to conceive by "natural" means after going through a similar case as me... in 2005 I had lefty removed (seminoma). I then had a short course of 20 radio hits to my stomach area to make sure my limph nodes were clear, prior to which I had several samples put on ice just in case.

Has anyone after similar treatment, or even more severe, ever been able to conceive naturally and have you had any experiences as such that you would be willing to share?

    Many thanks,
    Mr What

    check around

Although my son has had a different course, chemo, RPLND, the doctors shared that new ideas/medications are finding some success. My suggestion, check with a urologist on the latest techniques and ideas. The future sounds encouraging one way or another!! Take care, Russell's mom Sharon

hello *wave*! I am a wife of a TC survivor! Eric had his left testie removed then went through 3 rounds of Cisplat, vp, and bleo. His doctors were very VERY very head strong about him not getting any sperm checks until 2 year post treatment. They said it would be a disapponiment to us if we did it before that. I was annoyed, but we followed orders. they said *most* men will get sperm back by then and while the count might be low it will reproduce to more. Well Nov. was 2 year mark. During the last 3months before we hit the 2 year mark I went to the doctor and had a full work up of myself done. Found out I had fertility problems and was put on fertility medicine for 3 months. I went off it at the end of Sept. October came and went and then came Nov. We were gearing up for Eric to go have his sperm count done when I notice I had not had my period yet... I decided what the hell and bought like 5 home pregnancy test. Long story short it came up positive. My doctor believes that if we would have gone before and got my fertility problems taken care of that it would have happen sooner! We are expecting our 2nd little princess in 3 months!

I was diagnosed with late stage 3 seminoma 8 years ago. I was worried that I would not be able to have a family as well, but I now have a happy, healthy 2 year old son who was consieved naturally. Don't give up hope, and realize that the doctors are going to give you cautious advise in this area.

I was told the same thing about waiting 2 years and have planned ever since then to have a check when that time rolls around... well it's Nov this year!!!

I went through pretty much exactly the same experience last year. LN removed May 1st, 20 radiation treatments from July 13 to August 11th. The difference being my wife and I tried to conceive between surgery and radiation. We're now the proud parent's of a 5 week old baby girl!

mr what, i have had a similar experience. in 2000, my seminoma showed up and i had lefty removed. i don't recall how many radiation hits i had, but i did have them. if i had to guess it would be between 12-20 hits. before the radiation, i did have samples stored. on my last visit to the urologist, i did have my count checked and he said it wasn't optimal compared to someone who has a pair, but it should be good enough to conceive naturally. he looked at the count and motility and recommended to try conceiving for a year, before thinking about ivf.

i got married in december and we tried to conceive for three months. in late march, my wife got a positive result on an early home pregnancy test. right now she is 8 weeks in. although we have a long way to go, i thought you might want to hear about a similar situation that yielded in natural conception. best of luck to you.
