    Boyce & Margaret,
I'm so sorry for the injustice. It's so frustrating, it's not fair, then again none of this S*#t is fair. Our loved ones not only have cancer, it's chemo, additional surgery, pain, all that goes with the physical part, then it's the loss of jobs, homes, any form of security. I'm sure better things are waiting for you both (you deserve them) but it's the waiting for those things, that are challenging. So stay strong, and keep the love.

Margaret, today it's my turn to take you for that ice cream.

      Y'all are great

I can't express how much I appreciate your love and support. Here's the thing....I'm not in charge of this. I could have spent the last 30 days looking for a job and using up my vacation time, etc., but UnitedHealth pays me to do a job, and I did it to the very best of my ability.

I think it's really crappy to do what my boss did, but I also believe in a larger plan.

The possibility of a project management role in Pharma is really exciting. M and I can afford for me to take some time to find the right job, and I am leaving my job after selling the biggest project of the year.

God's plan isn't mine to question. I do know this...My division had $5,000,000 in sales year to date and a net profit of $20,000. That's stunningly low! so the pressure there would have been unbearable if I stayed. My boss told me I was caught up in the "perfect storm" and offered a great reference for a PM job elsewhere.

I will be fine. It's a job...not cancer. We all know what a fight is all about, and I promise you...this is not it. This is a blessing that will take time to appreciate. As I appreciate so deeply all of you.

        Margaret and Boyce

I just wanted to point out something I read yesterday, September is the most active month for hiring. So it might turn quicker then you think. And I think this is because most companies fiscal years start Oct 1. So they like to get everything in order before that date.

I also want to tell you that my husband recieved a job offer from a company, even after disclosing his cancer to them. He turned the job down, it was about 60 miles from home. The pay was great, but he was still hoping for a promotion at work....which 3 years and an MBA later, still hasn't happened...but as you said, God has a time for everything.

When it comes to jobs and raises, they have always come when we needed them. God knows when we need them!

I'll be praying for you guys on this!

        Happy job hunting.

Poor guy....if you are not already sick of this sob story...he has over 100 hours of saved Paid time off...his boss (or should I say ex-boss) called today to say that under NC law it is a 'grant' and so PTO is not paid out when someone leaves the company. So he loses his PTO...I guess we should have taken a vacation .

I want to share a story...and I hope that when we are each in a position to help another we do it...

In july of 2005 I hired a man to run our paper company - he and wife wanted to relocate to fl from MN with their two kids (age 15 and 3). I offered him a job, he quit his job...he was to start in 45 days. I had hundreds of resume's, many local...I was drawn to his for some unknown reason...

A week before his start date, he tells me his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer...Mayo clinic and another said there was nothing that could be done, and she should get hospice care immediately.....he did not know what to do...his world was spinning..

I told him to take his time, i'd keep the job open till he told me what he wanted to do...I started his pay on his official start date and fought with our insurance carrier and made some mods so they'd carry her....eventually, 30 days later, he said they'd be moving to spend their last few weeks or months together in fl, for maybe a few walks on the beach....so eventually they moved here in oct.

he wasn't around much, his wife was dying...but a new doc down here wanted to try some things....so the whole company, his new team, was patient and caring while he was away many days with so much on his mind and so much to do....

then I get diagnosed with tc a month later in nov 2005....and I'm pretty much gone for the next 5 months between surgery & chemo....we had taken the company private not long before, but the absentee owner kept me on, and my sr. staff did a great job while I was out...we corresponded by email and phone...I was so proud of all of them. They all stepped up.

now, back to my VP of the paper company - his wife is still alive after more than two years...still battling cancer....but saw some more of her kids bdays and they've had many walks together on the beach.

We keep in touch often thru her husband and sometime directly via phone....during chemo we'd joke about being tired, ringing ears, hemmoroids, being sick etc....

and now we are all thankful that instead of dying two years ago with no hope, she is down here and still fighting.

Don't get me wrong - my job is to make money for this company...but I have so many people willing to bend over backwards because they all know that when the chips are down, we will stand by them, like a family would. They stood by me when I needed it. I'm amazed that some can not understand this, even if they want to be "good" for selfish reasons.

You can not change how other people act, you can only control how you handle these things I suppose.

Of course, you will find a new job....but in the meantime, try not to let someone else's actions fuel you with too much anger (which it sounds like it has not)....it's just another lesson because someday someone will need your help and you will be there for them.

In the meantime, best of luck on the job search.

I read these posts and I wonder how so many amazing people with such large hearts all ended up here together. It made me wonder if TC only strikes the nicest people . I can't really put it into words how much you all mean to us. I keep hoping someone will need a favor that we can deliver so the scale will feel more balanced.

Pete, you are a very kind person to support that man from your company the way you did. Maybe Boyce's next boss will be more like you.

He has a job interview today at 12:30. I hope it will go well.
