    before TC

    Jens,

I like your idea. As I mentioned before, I had a hernia repair 3 years before TC and have since learned that inguinal hernias are associated with a slightly higher rate of TC -- for reasons unknown.

Will start a thread on this topic right now.

    Let's find out.

It's to obvious, to not pursue...
How many of us have had someone tamper with the jewels before having TC?
    (Vasectomy, hernia, hydrocele, whatever...)
Perhaps someone can set up a pole-like-thing or something to get as many answers as possible in an easy way? I think we have an opportunity here to at least get an indication of a possible connection.

    Best wishes
    Jens

I took a quick look at the site. I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't an attempt to cover religious objections to sterilization with psuedo-science.

    More about vasectomy

Now that I am thinking harder about the whole issue of vasectomy, I did some web-searching and found this site which warns against some of the problems vasectomy could potentially create.

It is hard to judge how fair and reputable this site is, but it does make one stop and think.

    TC causes????

Who knows anymore. Been reading about cell phones in pockets, eating habits, now vasectomy's. Only thing I know is we all had it. I hope mastubation, and sex are not a cause for it

For what it's worth, I had my vasectomy in 1998, soon after our twin boys (our third and fourth children, following two daughters) were born. I don't suspect my testicular cancer nearly five years later was related.

    Thank You

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for the interesting information. Since I don't want any more medical risk in my life, I am going to put off the vasectomy.

My first TC came a few years after an inguinal hernia repair, which I have since found out may be associated with a higher risk of cancer.

    hi
I had tc for the first time in 1984, had two wonderful kids, and then vasetomy, I was told that there was no higer risk of getting tc again
but I did get it again 18 months ago.
I don`t know if the vasetomy is to blame for that, but I have been thinking
that I would not have done it to day if I had the choise again.

The National Cancer Institute reports, "A few studies have suggested a link between vasectomy and an increased risk of testicular cancer, but the evidence is inconsistent and the association in some studies may be due to factors other than vasectomy. It is also possible that the vasectomy procedure increases the rate at which an existing, but undetected, testicular cancer will progress. At this time, it is believed that there is either no association or a weak association between vasectomy and testicular cancer, although more research is needed before definitive conclusions can be reached."

    Hi John.

I had a vasectomy (I was bilateral back then...) almost 3 years ago. Apart from some minor discomfort it was fine. When I later had some discomfort I began to regret the vasectomy. The late occuring discomfort, however, turned out to be TC... so I don't have any regrets now.
Today I'm very pleased with the vasectomy and I dare say I function - at least to my own satisfaction. Hormone and otherwise there is no difference.

    Best wishes

    Vasectomy after orchiectomy

    Hi Everyone,

I had an orchiectomy five years ago when I had TC, and now am considering getting a vasectomy.

Has anyone else done this? Any considerations?

I figure I should get a 50% discount (HA HA) but other than that can't see anything different in regards to having vasectomy on one side. From what I understand, testosterone, sex life etc. will not be in any way affected.
