  • Testosterone and Cholesterol

I was wondering if anyone has any information or experience with how testosterone replacement effects cholesterol levels.

I am using testosterone cypanoate injections, 200 mg/2 weeks. I just had my cholesterol checked and the numbers were disturbing, especially since a year and a halp ago they were much better.

So any info about how the injectable testosterone can effect cholesterol?

    Thanks,
    Peter

      Hi Peter,

The body utilises Cholesterol in the manufacture of Testosterone.
Therefore, if you are replacing all natural Testosterone production with an external source, as happens with injections, Cholesterol levels could increase.

If you have a remaining testicle, it would possibly pay to consider a daily alternative, (Androgel, Testim, or Striant) which can be moderated easily and could allow the remaining testicle to recover it's natural production, although sometimes, something like HCG is necessary.

Another possibility is that you are one of many men who suffer from a condition known as Metabolic Syndrome. But for that to be true, other readings would also be suspicious.

      I hope this helps,

Unfortunately, I have had bilateral cancer, so the HRT is necessary.

        What is Metabolic Syndrone?

Also, the HDL level was particulary low, could this have anything to do with the HRT?

Just a note, I am not trying ot figure this out as an excuse for not looking at my diet and getting more exercise. I know those are probaly factors, but the jump was huge (159 - 215 in 1.5 years) and I am trying to figure out why. I know I need more exercise, which I am already taking care of, but my diet is pretty good and the same as my wife's and her Cholesterol is 140 with HDL at about 70 (both very good numbers).

        Thanks for any help.

My husband is bilateral too. We have always eaten the same thing with the only difference being that he eats a lot more cheese and he drinks a lot more wine. I went on Lipitor when my numbers reached 275 consistently; they are now around 140. His runs around 160. He is at the gym every morning for a hour work out. Sometimes there is no reason for it but the gene pool.
