Info About Testred( methitest)

Hi all,

My doctor wrote me out a prescription for Testred 10mg. I have to take 1 tablet a day for the first month. My testosterone has never tested low until 3-4 weeks ago were they said it was pretty much in the tank(which would explain other symptoms I was having). I really don't know to much about testoterone replacement therapy or any of the medication for this condition.. I have heard of many men using Androgel which I guess you apply to your shoulder or forearm(???) and I have also heard of the patch... My questions are:
1) Are there any side affects that I should expect from taking Testred?
2) Is this medication as affective as Androgel or the patch and if not could anyone suggest a medication that has worked for them??
3) how long should it take before I feel a noticeable difference?
4) is this something I will need to take on a permanent basis or is it possible to get off the meds once my level are raised to normal

I'm no expert on testosterone treatment as I have just started on Testogel (androgel in the USA) 2 days ago. Please check out this thread as I was also concerned as to side effects:

The oral forms if taken for long periods can cause some nasty side effects,as STITCH stated in the above thread:
Even if liver damage werent an issue, the oral forms are the least effective of all the routes of administration and not the option you would want to go with anyway. Methyltestosterone, (oral) if used for sustained periods of time, can damage the liver. The Physicians Desk Reference cites several different forms of liver damage from high dose methyl- testosterone including liver cancer, cholestatic hepatitis, and other liver diseases. Even if your liver is perfect, the oral route is to be avoided.

Don, I agree with Paul (its hard for me to call him Ballsup), please see if your doctor will change the prescription to Androgel, or ask him why he chose that form of delivery. The gel is so much easier and much more effective. The problem with the patch is that it falls off and my husband' skin tended to get raw where the adhesive was. My husband showers, shaves, puts on aftershave, and then uses the androgel. Very easy and just part of a normal routine. Going from low testosterone to a normal testosterone level will make the world of difference to you, especially with mood swings (depression, impatience, anger) and will help you with energy. It seemed that the time frame was pretty quick. Dealing with a husband with low testosterone is like dealing with a woman on continual PMS. It's not fun. Good luck to you, Don. Dianne

Is the Androgel very expensive??? 90 day supply of Tested was pretty inexpensive($145).. Any side affects or problems with Androgel??? The Liver disease possibility bothers me with Testred-- and seeing the Testred is taken orally my 1 kidney has to break it down--I,m really trying to handle my remaining kidney with kid gloves .... it runs me $35 every 21 days or so. so its right in line with what your paying. if my insurance would cover more than a 30 day supply it would save me a little more. i havent really experienced any side affects but i havent been on it but a few weeks. in the last week or so i have had some mild gas like stomach pains but i'm not sure if its related. since i apply only to the stomach region, it may be! but the levels are much better than what i was doing! best of luck with everything. sending some positive thoughts and prayers your way!!!
