  • Varicocele Repair (Any others?)

My low testosterone was brought about due to a varicocele that occured after a knock to the groin (nothing too serious or painful at the time). Over a period of 13 week's my testicle atrophied since the injury due to the varicocele swelling up bad My testosterone level dropped from the 650/700 range too 300/400 (maybe lower - getting latest results back on thursday morning).

While varicoceles are common for many guys, doctor's are unaware of the damage they cause to the testicle. I have spoken with about 18 men so far and they all suffer from low testosterone due to a varicocele. Some guy's have waited too long and testicular damage has set in (really high LH/FSH values being a sign of this).

LH and FSH levels are a good sign of how testosterone is working in your body. If your LH or FSH level is elevated it mean's some form of damage has occured in the testicle. Throughout all the blood test's i have had done (even when on TRT) my LH and FSH were always in range, so this is a good thing for sure.

I am going in for varicocele surgery next monday morning (getting varicocle embolization done). I spoke with a guy last night that told me that after his operation his sperm count and testosterone level elevated over a period of 1/2 months to being much higher and more in the normal range. His testicle regained it's normal size also (or at least 80/90% "normal).

I hope my own natural levels increase and i can go back to feeling "normal" again and having a good libido. I don't expect an over night miracle but any improvement will be good!

Just wondering if anyone else on the forum has had a varicocele repaired and if they noticed any hormonal/spermatic improvements afterwards?

I didn't know this, but I had a varicocele in my left testicle (the one I lost)... I realized this when I reread all of my reports yesterday, including the US. That side of my scrotum was really "puffy" for a long time. With varicocele causing atrophy and other changes, it is hard for me to believe that there isn't some relationship to TC.

I friend of mine had a varicocele... and it caused him to be infertile. Apparently, testicles stay warmer if the varicocele is large enough. After he had it repaired, he had a couple of kids.

I couldn't agree more with djmac. I think a link is possible. I will be setting up a website promoting the dangers of varicoceles and i am looking to get as many personal stories as possible. Would you be willing to put up your own story?

I am intrested in hearing as many stories as possible regarding this though your friend's story seem's common. It only makes be believe that these thing's are more dangerous than people think.

Sure, Megazoid, but I think the problem will be that something like 15-20% of the population get varicoceles, but only something like 0.3% ever get TC. It would be hard to establish a link with that kind of differential. This gives me an idea though...
