  • testosterone levels

    Hi some advice needed,

Recently had my bloods checked following Orchidectomy 1 year ago. FOund the following levels:

    LH 5.7 IU/L
    FSH 13.5 IU/L

    Testosterone 13.3 ng/l

Have been told that some concern about raised FSH (almost double reference level) which might indicate the beginning of a problem with testosterone levels (ie lefty not keeping up I guess). Have to go back for second blood test at 9am (I guess Testosterone is lower in the morning???).

ANy ideas what might be going on anyone - anyone had similar issues??

    Thanks

    Jeremy

13.3ng/dl is barely existant are you sure its not nmol/l???
The upper limit for female testosterone is 115ng/dl.

Testosterone is higher in the morning and is when your ment to get the proper reading to compare with lab ranges(wich are too broad anyway).

Your LH/FSH levels look simular to mine, and I have been diagnosed with primary testicular failure.
FSH controls sperm output and LH controls testosterone.

You must be feeling pretty sick with that testosterone level?

    Start taking Zinc asap.

ok yes my mistake I guess - must be nmol/l as they said that reference range was 8.4 - 35.7.

My level before my orchiectomy was 14nmol/l in the afternoon, and I was experiencing mild fatigue and joint problems in the gym.

You would defenetly need to get a morning sample I would guess it would be around 18-23, 23 being borderline. Either way your FSH should not be that high.

you say that you would expect the morning level to be 18 to 23 with 23 being borderline - what do you mean by this - is this total testosterone? and would this mean the level would be higher in the morning?? I have been told the "normal" range is 8.4 to 35.7nmol/l ????? Now Im really confused. Are we talking the same language?

But yes the FSH being that high does cause me concern as it seems to suggest (according to the doc) that my petuatory gland is asking for more testosterone - suggests that my testical is not doing its job correctly????? Is that right do you think??

8-35 isnt the range of normal, its merely the ranges the labs see in healthy, hypogonadal and possibly users on steroids.

23nmol/l in the morning is borderline, meaning 25nmol/l is the lower end of normal, and 22 is hypogonadal, although someone can have 14nmol and still feel normal, or someone can have 24nmol/l and feel like ****, everyone is diffrent.
Raised FSH if anything suggests subfertility.
