Sustanon versus Testogel

hello

My husband has had a double orchidectomy and as a result has been receiving sustanon injections for the last 5 years. This has never really been satisfactory resulting in testosterone levels that have either been too high or low.

A doctor has mentioned using Testogel. If anyone has experience of using Testogel I would interested in knowing how effective it has been.

Hi Rosina,

I have been using Testogel since 2003. find it better than Sustanbon as I am able to maintain a steady level. It's a bonus waking ever morning knowing how you are going to feel all day.

As a bilateral, your husban's dose is likely to be above the standard 1 sachet per day. My advice is to get onto Testogel, or Testim, (another gel), then adjust the dose over one month in conjunction with the doctor.

Why not consider Nebido long term testosterone injection ??? It's needed only 4 shots per year and has a very good stability of T level

Thanks for replying to my post and offering us advice. My husband is considering the longterm injection option. You say that it is is pretty stable. Is this from personal experience or do you know if there is any data on this? Either would be of interest.

Clinical tests for Nebido shows a very good stability of T level over 3-4 months. Like Andriol it's undecanoate testosterone. After a recent period of exagerated tireness I tried Undestor testocaps [oral pills of undecanoate]. 1 pill of 40mg per day. The change was major and imediate. Much more energy and a crazy libido. So I'm quite sure that i'm at low boundry of normal range [I drink a lot of beer daily wich is a powerfull estrogen enchancer and T suppressor]. All man after 30 years shoud consider T to be cheked and boosted if needed. Having only one testicle [or none] is moore one reason. Back to Nebido, I have a friend witch is taking this medicine and it's very satisfied. Having only 4 shots per year it's a resonable way for TRT with a very good bioavailability and stability of T over long periods of time [3-4 months]. I'll also consider nebido for myself but for the moment I feel great with one pill of Undestor per day.

I am on testogel, I went from Testocaps to testogel, and while my endo put me on 4 testocaps per day which I felt was too high when I switched to testogel for the 1st 3 weeks my libido was crazy, but now is back to normal, I am soon going to get my E2 under control which is at the top of the normal range.
My morning T level is a baseline therefore I feel for someone with very low T testogel may need to be dosed twice a day.

Hi Kurt,

I am prescribed Testim, as that is what I want to use. However, such is the weird pharmacy supply situation in the UK no pharmacy near me is willing to obtain it for me. Their normal wholesaler does not provide it.

As to Nebido. I have no experience of it, but consider it may be best used by men with no testicles. If one reads the info on it, available at www.nebido.com, the paper suggests the levels take time to build up, as does the frequency. The recommendation is to start at about a six week interval and build from there to a max of 12 weeks.

From my experience with other patients who have tried it, some like it some don't. It falls in line with all other therapies inasmuch as it suits some but not all.

It is interesting reading your messages between you and Kurt about the availability of Testogel/Testim. We live in Bedfordshire and do not know if there is a reasonably local supply. Which wholesaler does your hospital/doctor deal with? I have been looking through the procurement policy for our local primary health care trust today as it does seem to direct them to deal with fewer suppliers to be cost effective. (which in accounting terms makes sense but may not not be good for choice)
I have also seen that it costs 4x times the amount as sustanon. I have been doing all this homework as my husband's consultant is a bit shadowy and I want a 'firm' conversation with him. Did you get much resistance to using Testogel for cost or any reason? If you did what did you quote to get round this. Personally I feel I have quite a lot in the policies about patient involvement/quality of care etc for long term patients.

Sorry to be asking so many questions of you but you are UK based and this may be a help. It's odd we do not know anyone else in our area affected by TC!

The simple answer to your question is that we do have patient choice in the UK. This overcomes any objections on financial grounds.

The wholesaler that seems to have an iron grip is Unichem. Again, I know it is possible to threaten the pharmacy with official complaints if they will not comply with the doctors prescription.

Many thanks, particularly to Nick for all your help and advice. My husband spoke with his consultant, who does have a bit of the ' Sir Lancelot Sprat' about him (See Doctor in the house Films of the 50's if further reference is needed about this alarming but interesting charactor)

The Doctor said Yes to Testogel and to begin course when his last injection of sustanon runs out. Strangely he said that he thought Richard was happy with Sustanon - despite Richard telling him at every appointment for the last 5 years that he was tired, angry etc and unable to achieve a consistent hormone level !

So don't know yet if this will be the solution but heartening to hear that so many men feel good on it and hope my husband will soon be one of them.

What injection protocol was he on, 200mg every 14 days??
