  • Pre-chemo questions

Hi everyone, i'm new to the board and would appreciate some advise:
I was diagnosed with a stage 1 seminoma, with a clear CT scan, and clear blood tests. Yet my doctors have suggested a single dose of chemo, Carboplatin to be more accurate.
Can anyone advise me on what to expect?
Like how long will i feel bad for?
They also told me that i shouldn't lose any hair, because its only one dose. is this true?
I'm a very active person and i'm not looking forward to being stuck indoors being sick!!

    Any advise would be great!!

Simon, are you in the UK or elsewhere in Europe? Single-dose carboplatin seems to be a common treatment there for stage I seminoma, and it comes up pretty regularly in these forums.

Some early studies have shown good results, but at least in the US, it's not standard treatment. More data is needed about its long-term effectiveness, as well as the impact of having had adjuvant carboplatin in case of later recurrence.

If you search for "carboplatin," you'll find some of those past discussions about single-dose vs. two cycles and the importance of tracking results through a clinical trial.

Don't expect any big change , but it is very important that you will drink enough...

            Simon:
Drink all the fluids you can it is very important to flush the chemo out of your kidneys. Take your anti-nausea meds before you feel sick and everthing should be fine.

Yes, I have been trough 3 cycles oc Carboplatin and after first one I had no side effects. After second I had little sickness but it really depends on person. Don't be afraid if your sickness will be more intensive, I heard such results after one cycle also.

You must be aware to drink enough,...., and like I said, this Chemo is not the same like chemo for 3x BEP because dosage and time of getting it is much smaller.

              Good luck

well guys, had the chemo yesterday
just woke up and feel ok, just feel alittle sick and physically drained, but nothing major.
But my mental awareness is lower, for example i find myself asking people to repeat themselves, or pausing, or saying em alot when talking! is this normal?

So far so good...bring it on!
