Hi Everyone,
I've kept an eye on the forum since I was initally diagnosed last May - its been a great source of info and inspiration. Had orchiectomy in May 05 (pathology recorded NSGCT and embyonal carcinoma) followed, eventually, by 2x BEP in Jul/Aug after my AFP level fell from an initial 5,500 down to 5.
From the forum I noticed the difference in attitude between the US and UK on adjuvant chemo and discussed it with my consultant but when it came to the crunch it was going to be difficult to decide not to take it, though with hindsight.....
My recent routine check in Jan showed my AFP level had gone up to 20, and a second test showed it had risen again to 52. A CT scan 2 weeks ago confirmed 3 nodes (5mm) on my lung. Just had PET/CT scan today but I'm already booked in for more chemo starting next Monday.
Chemo regime proposed CBOP (for 4 weeks, alternating between BOP and CBOP), two weeks rest, then 3x 3 week cycles of TIP (1wk on, 2wk off). I'm meeting my consultant on Fri to review PET scan results and the pending chemo but I've the usual problem of having some questions but not knowing what I dont know!
Although its of lesser consequence now, my girlfriend and I had rearranged a trek to Everest Base Camp for this March (originally cancelled from last Oct), and were raising money for CancerBACUP, a UK charity - see
Keeping positive we're re-booking for next year!
I didn't fare to badly on my original 2x BEP (no sickness and my hair grew back thicker!), but I'm presuming its gonna be much worse this time round. Can't seem to find out much info on CBOP or TIP, so any info on the treatment and success rates would be welcomed.
Keeping positive!
Nigel
