    Hi all .
    Just a quick update.
After the I/O my markers rose a fair bit , and the path report indicated lymphatic invasion 90% embrionioc carcinoma with teratoma.
After seeing the local onco. (in small town aust.) and another set of scans revieled a lymph node in the abdomen had gone from 1 to 2.2 cm in 2 weeks.(just a side note the initial lab report from the first scan was read wrongly and said no invasion but the uroligist spotted it straight away)
    HCG pre I/O 15 2 weeks later 165
    AFP pre I/O 58 2 weeks later 101
My onco said no choice 3x BEP ASAP.
So i had my first round last week and going for a bleo push today, so far so good no sickness just feel a bit like a flu, the mouth is playing up a bit(sores) but i still have an appetite . I have also developed a bit of asthma.
I am trying to stay positive but not knowing is a bugga ! (will i be ok ? DR. we will just have to wait and see ]
How long do es it normally take before they can tell ? my doc says wait till the first cycle possibly the second !
Anyhow i am feeling o.k and i hope you all are as well
    cheers swan

      Hi Swan.

What you have, will be cured with 3xBEP!

You will se markes drop within weeks and a CT-scan after completion of the 9 weeks will be clear. So lean back and let the chemo do it's job. Your part is to eat, drink and stay moderately in shape.
It's no fun, but it's worth it.
      Chemo is good, Chemo works.

      Best wishes

Watch the "asthma", it might be a reaction to the bleo. Make sure your onc does a pulmonary function test. My son's situation was similar to yours, his markers were normal during his second cycle. Hang in there. You are going to be just fine. Dianne

          Hi Swan,
Fear of the unknown can cause useless anxiety. Stay positive! You will be just fine.
Continued good luck with your treatment. A few months down the road you will be back to living your life again.

            Hi all ,
Firstly mom onco makes my have a pulmanary (sp) lung test before each cycle so she is on to that.
Just a quick one on the markers my markers on the 13/3/06 pre round one BEP
            HCG 151 (down from 165)
            AFP 101
markers on 3/4/06 pre round 2
            HCG 2 ( this is good yes ? )
AFP 24 now if we say the half life is even 7 days if my maths is right it should be around 12 should i be worried ?
My onco said she was very pleased and the results are encouraging !
On a side note finished day 2 of second cycle no problems just that sort of fluey feeling and not a lot of sleeping .
Thanks in advance ,and hope you are all well.
            cheers Swan

              Hi swan

              HCG = 2 is GREAT!

              About your AFP:
              value Days
              101 0
              50,5 7
              25,25 14
              12,625 21
              6,3125 28
              3,15625 35

So is the math, as you calculated. But that is in a situatoin where there is no production of AFP. You had elevated levels post orchiectom, so you do (did, sorry) have something inside that makes AFP and eventhough it is beeing killed as we speak, the levels will a little higher than the math predicts.
I find your values extremely encouraging - Chemo works!

Remeber to drink a lot of water!

              Best wishes
