me again
The antioxidants regimen is MINE. After many many nights of study, beteen IO and chemo, I decided to take this regimen. [After first cycle of BEP the HCG has dropped to 0.5so....]. There are many recent studies that specify the sinergical effect of high dose of vitamin E with cisplatin and etoposide. The ideeas that antioxidants may interefere with chemo in a bad way is relatively obsolete. There a well documented citotoxic substances who works very nice with antiOx (AO). The key is HIGH dosage. Only then the sinergical effect will act.
The socond major benefit is the neuroprotective effect. In my case, the onc has used an elevated dose of cisplatin (40 / m2 instead of 34 / m2). Despite this dosage I can say, after 1 year , I have no side effects [I'm music composer and keyboard player as hobby and I have no changes in the way of sound perception or the dexterity of my fingers].
OK, you may say : Why are you so sure that the AO involved ? Well, after my success, the onc has inserted this protocol to all new TC patients. The results was the same : COMPLETE REMISION and NO SIDE EFFECTS.
E+Se is enough (E fot neuropathy and ototoxicity and Se for Kidney protection)
All the best

It doesw also strip your body of Magnesium which is actually thought to be one of the factors in survivors getting Neuropathy ...... My doctor started me on Magnesium after 1 month out of the hospital....
P.S. the gotee makes you look like a very distinguished gentlemen Bill!!!!!

First I have to correct a huge error the Perscription was for Potassium and not Magnesium. The article that mentions the 20 years is posted in the research section as long term care of tc survivors. I am giving Jason extra potassium as a simple precaution.Last edited by dadmo; 02-06-08, 03:19 PM.

So how can we do to help evacuate cisplatin from our system? Is there some product we can take?

Just to add to my previous message Jason was given prescription strength potassium. The cisplatin is leaches the magnesium out of you muscles. In the article on care for long term survivors it mentions that cisplatin can be detected in the blood even after 20 years, because of this I have added a potassium supplement to Jason's daily vitamins.

I don't believe there is some research proving that some normal vitamin (normal dose) suplements can do any harm to chemo treatement. Between this body cells are so damaged that some healty food ( what else vitamins are) can be just good for our organs.
My opinion is that mybe it is not good to take it too much, because then body can be damaged just because of them (liver,...)

My magnesium was low because of the cisplatin too, so I was instructed to take a magnesium supplement.

First off is my caveat to consult your doctor.
Contrary to the rest of the thread, my oncologist had no problem with a multivitamin and I was also put on magnesium (because one of the BEP drugs leaches it from your system).

I was cut off all vitamins and supplements with anti-oxidant characteristics. oncologist said it could affect chemo efficacy.

Dadmo's right, please check with your oncologist. Mine told me that under no circumstances should I be taking vitamins during chemo. Because both are anitoxidants, the vitamins may interfere with the chemo's effectiveness, which is definitely something you don't want.
