I had the ringing and the hearing loss as well. But for me it was the mid frequencies so i could still hear the highs and the really lows. it was really annoying to say the least and I was pretty fed up with it by the end of my treatment I did 4xEP as well.

I can't remember exactly when things went back to normal as it was a gradual thing, but my hearing did come back.

      Help for Tinnitus

      Hi,

I have suffered from TC, but tinnitus even worse...the tinnitus is from playing drums for 30years and as a sound engineer I listened to speakers so loud that they light on fire (true story)...not to mention the blistering headphone volumes as well.

I cured my severe tinnitus to the point of living sanely (and after 2 years from when I blew up my ears in early 2007 at about the time when I lost my right nut to TC), I can now listen to music fairly loudly. Albeit, the recent radiation therapy made my ears more sensitive, but I would not say that my tinnitus is louder due to radiation (thank goodness)

HERE IS WHAT IS REALLY HELPED ME in 2007– LOW FREQUENCY SOUND THERAPY. I found some free software to create the tones. NCH Tone Generator.

Easily generate sine waves, sound frequencies or signals to create test tones or noise waveforms. Align radio levels, calibrate sound equipment and more.

All night when I slept listening (with quality headphones) to a soothing Sine wav of 40 Hz in left ear and 39.73 Hz in the right. This is the ear drum massage portion of the therapy.

In parallel I also used an approach of setting a Sine tone (at 3394 Hz) to be lower than my tinnitus (3716 Hz) and then the tone itself seems to increase over the loudness of the tinnitus (tricks the brain, it is very cool when that happens). I then kept setting the intensity of the external tone lower until both are imperceptible. Take the headphones off and no tinnitus. You have to do this religiously for months.

This technique is developed by a major university in the western US...think the patients go there weekly...I just adapted it to solve my issues.

Sure..be happy to provide any more info

Hi...I would be more than happy to provide more info...in fact I can share some of the sound programs I wrote. The key thing for the person needing the therapy is to understand the frequency at which their tinnitus is occurring (the best thing is to get a hearing test by an audiologist)...then you can tell where to begin... eg 25db loss at 3700 Hz...

I am so happy that it helped me and it has helped others as well...however this therapy does not work for everyone, as every tinnitus is different...

Could you do this same type of therapy with a frequency generator and an set of headphones?

Are your "programs" CD format or do they run off of an emulator on a pc?

I think this is really interesting.

The program and process I use is PC based

The program and process I use is PC based

Recommend using NCH Tone Generator and running it off a laptop...it can be used for free for 30 days

Easily generate sine waves, sound frequencies or signals to create test tones or noise waveforms. Align radio levels, calibrate sound equipment and more.

For headphones I recommend the Sony MDR 7506

I cannot attached one of my programs because the TC site will not allow...However you can email me at [email protected] and I can send some of the programs I have written...it will have the the low frequency sound therapy (40 Hz) and the higher remedy tone (3363 Hz)

REMEMBER TO SET YOUR PC VOLUME VERY LOW BEFORE YOU START...build up the the volume gradually...the idea being that the remedy tone should be slightly lower in frequency than your tinnitus (eg set at 3150 Hz if your tinnitus is at 3300 Hz) and the remedy volume must be slighly higher than your tinnitus. The low frequency is rumbling in the background to massage. Then the idea is to progressively reduce the volume. Please note that the Db level within the NCH software program is your best way to dial in your volume needs (leave PC volume at 10-15%).

I've had tinnitus and hearing loss since I did the HDC in September '08. It was caused by the carboplatin actually so I would hesitate before having your doctor switch you to that one. The cisplatin never gave me any hearing problems. Maybe that's just because the carbo was high dose though. Anyways, that's my story. I hope it goes away for you because it's annoying.
