my friend had the same exact procedure done.carboplatin is a little weaker then cisplatin but they give it in larger doses because of it.overall, the high dose was....at least for him...a breeze.BEP made him feel worse.best of luck.

Tomorrow I finally go in for bone marrow surgery to collect enough stem cells. Then I will be admitted and begin high dose etoposide and carboplatin. I had the etoposide before but was wondering if anyone here has had the carboplatin and what to expect???

Hey scott, thanks for the email! I lost my password on here and have been busy in Cincinnati, but i'm back online!

This past friday I had a neostar catheter placed, and began neupogen injections, and today was my first day of stem cell collections. I go back on Tuesday (hopefully I will have enough collected and will have Wednesday off). Thursday I have a pre admission teaching day and also meet up with the doctor before being admitted this Friday at 9am for High Dose Etoposide and Carboplatin (apparently an "updated" version of cisplatin). my pet scan came back good - the tumor on the spine appears much smaller and no other areas of metastasis appear!! Although My AFP a few weeks ago came back over 600, we think it was much higher BEFORE i was admitted to the hospital weeks ago for chemo/radiation. So there was likely a favorable response to the previous treatment.

Pathology was 95% embryonal, 5% Seminoma. Stage IIa was the original diagnosis. No tumor ever found up until now.
